Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, reflecting on the state of the Israel-Palestinian conflict as part of the U.N.’s “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People,” acknowledged both the achievements and lost opportunities related to the conflict as he and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon near the end of their tenure this year.
Eliasson says the last 10 years can be described as “a lost decade” for Israeli-Palestinian peace-making and if the trend continues, a two-state solution could slip out of reach.
His comments came as the 193-member General Assembly prepared to meet Tuesday afternoon on the conflict.
definitely a historic event but to the wrong side. now they will never make peace with Israel who is the TRUE OWNER OF THE LAND as given to them by the ONE ABOVE.
The Palestinians will never agree to peace unless they have it all,and of course historical bec till this historical event it was natural to realize that terrorists dont belong in UN but now the members and the non member observer…are all the same
It was historical because it delayed, and possibly removed, any chance fit a negotiated peace between Jews and Muslims.
Congratulations Jan and Ban – you have managed to make the situation worse.
Arrogance and ignorance intersected.
The Palestinian Authority does not meet the definition of a nation state, or even a suzerene state, because it does not have defined borders.
They can’t be this ignorant.
This UN cycle will go down in History along with the past 8 years of the Obuma presidency as the worst ever.
