Seema Verma was named as President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The position could give Verma a significant voice if Trump acts on his promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

Verma designed Pence’s expansion of Medicaid under the federal health care law, but with a conservative twist: It requires poor people to pay nominal fees for medical care. In most states, the poor are not required to pay such fees.

Trump says Verma will help “transform our health care system for the benefit of all Americans.”

Oh yes I have been saying this all along . If we charge the poor even a nominal amount it would save lots of money and enable us to cover more people . A small co pay is way over do. And don’t tell me that it will just discourage people to seek care and send them to emergency rooms thereby increasing costs. Because if it did that, then all of us non Medicaid insurees would not be charged co pays . After all insurance companies are in the business of making money. If it cost them more they would not charge us copyays . They obviously feel that it’s a major cost savings and makes us more responsible for our health.
Lest you argue well the poor can’t afford it like me and they will just get sick. I live pay check to pay check and on a much smaller budget than my friends on programs. It’s tough for me but they can surely swing it . And I pay $35 per visit . Let them pay $10. Even that would go a long way .
