Washington - It’s the same Oval Office. The same desk. Even the same curtains. But President Obama has already made one major change: Go through eight years of White House photos, and you won’t find one of former President Bush in the Oval Office without his jacket on.

It wasn’t just a personal preference. In the Bush administration, it was a rule: Jackets in the Oval Office — and now, it seems, one of the first Bush-era regulations to get scrapped in the Obama White House.

And so, this is the beginning of the descecration of the sanctuary of the United States of America. Gross desecration is always gradual, it starts with something insignificant like a jacket, and yes, some will say, "big deal, so he's not wearing a jacket", and it ends in total desecration of the constitution.

Ronald Reagan was also strict about formal dress in the oval office. It happened once that Pres. reagen was in the rose garden for a ceromoney on an exceptionally hot day. When the staff went into the Oval Office the Chief of Staff, Mike Deaver mentioned to the President about removing his jacket to cool off. Reagen's reply was "not in here". Bush 41 was just as strict about respect for the Oval Office

Reagan's big innovation was wearing brown suits, which were considered horrifically undignified at the time.

Fashion customs change. Should be go back to the powdered hair and knickers worn by George Washington?

The fact of the matter is not every culture makes it a point to dress like 1800's Germany. Today, in the modern world, the jacket is largely obsolete. Obama is just reacting to something thats being going on for decades, the same way JFK didnt wear a hat to his inauguration.

Lets critisize Obama when he deserves it, not for stupidities like this.

I agree with that 100%.

If we wanted to criticize presidents for such things as offend our notions of yashrus, etc., are we to get upset if a president goes mixed dancing? Listening to kol isha?

Believe it or not, in the 1840s and before, it was scandalous in this country for women to speak before groups of men. I am not talking about yidden, here, by the way. But those things change. Our way of life does not.

Obviously, there are things worth criticizing any politician, and as they happen we will do so.

But this jacket thing is shtuss. Who cares?

I liked Bush. I liked his determinantion to see things through. But he made mistakes. Iran would have been the better choice to attack.

I was aprehensive about Obama, but there are some things I am glad that Obama was elected. Like the promise to get us off middle east oil by 2010 through the quickest and only viable method --- the Plug-in hybrid. Obama promised 1,000,000 Plug-in hybrids by 2015.

Forget about the "chiztonius"- irrelevant trivia, and start talking about the real issues.

dude, he is allowed to sit at his deskwithout his jacket. First of all, the idea that bush had a strictly enforced rule is a lie - total shekler. there are pictures from past news articles all over the internet that show people in the office without jackets. further more it was only a Bush rule, it does not mean there was a rule beforehand. once upon a time kennedy was blasted for not wearing a hat as all proper gentleman did as recently as thr 1960's. Ronald Reagan made his aide cringe everytime he insisted on wearing his very undiginifed and uinprofessional Brown suits and beige suits which he loved so much.
so obama didnt wear a jacket? Big shpritz. seriously! who cares???
