Pence was joined by his wife, Karen Pence, and the couple’s 23-year-old daughter, Charlotte, as they toured the exhibits at the former concentration camp that was established by the Nazis in 1933 near Munich.

The vice president was accompanied by Abba Naor, a survivor of the camp, and other dignitaries as he passed through the wrought iron gate bearing the inscription, “Arbeit macht frei,” or “Work sets you free.” The Pences placed a wreath beneath the International Memorial at the center of the camp, toured the barracks and viewed the ovens inside the crematorium.

The Pences also stopped at religious memorials at the site and later attended a church service on the camp’s grounds.

More than 200,000 people from across Europe were held at Dachau, and more than 40,000 prisoners died there. The camp was liberated by U.S. forces in April 1945.

Former Vice President Joe Biden visited Dachau during a trip to Germany in 2015.

Making his first overseas trip as vice president, Pence spoke to foreign diplomats and defense officials at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other world leaders.

Pence was traveling to Brussels later Sunday for meetings on Monday with NATO and European Union officials.

#1 -Hashomer, you have a lot of chutzpah, writing such garbage!!

To the readers of VIN: Regarding Dachau, in April, 1978, I was privileged to hear the late U.S. Army Colonel Walter Falenz, speak at the Yeshivah of Flatbush High School, whereby he told us what happened on April 29, 1945. The later date in history was when the U.S. Army, while proceeding into Germany liberated Dachau. Falenz told us that his men were so incensed at what they saw (thousands of dead bodies in railroad cars, and in in the camp), that they wanted revenge. They engaged in a firefight with SS troops, who were still guarding watchtowers, and killed them. Then, when they entered the main gate, they were greeted by survivors. The Army immediately lined up over 110 SS troops against a wall, and opened fire on them with a machine gun, killing all of them. I remember that Col. Falenz told us that “his men continued firing, and fired hundreds of rounds into them”. He expressed remorse that he couldn’t save more Jews. Incidentally, the U. S. Army wanted to court martial the soldiers who killed the SS troops. However, General George Patton, to his credit, dismissed the charges against those who were involved.

To The Readers of VIN and Hakohen: wow thats quite a credential you have, you heard a talk by Col Falenz about Dachau! I can assure you, I have much more than chutzpah to go on, and when I smell an anti-democratic fascist leaning rat like Trumpf, I’ll speak out against him. All four sides of my parent’s families had men FIGHTING in WW2, in Europe and in the Pacific. My wife’s father was at Guadalcanal and in the Phillipines. Another was killed on a bombing raid in Belgium. An uncle inlisted at 16, fought in Germany and married a DP from Aushwitz. These are credentials of a sort. But why would any Yiddishe person support deranged Trumpf and his brown shirt hoardes? Because he birthered against a black president? Because he’s a racist against Mexicans? Because he groped women? Because he’s aligned w Bannon and the Klan?

To #5 - Hashomer-You neglected to tell us which branch of the U.S. Armed Forces you ever served in? Also, we are still waiting to hear from you affirming that you live in an integrated, diverse neighborhood? Remember last week, when you alleged that Trump had perpetrated redlining; kindly clarify the demographics of your neighborhood, so we can all see that you practice what you preach!
