Members of the city’s Jewish community came out to condemn the vandalism by an armed group that shattered religious objects and spray-painted walls in Caracas’ oldest synagogue.

Venezuela has been among the countries criticizing Israel for its military offensive in Gaza.

Protestors say they wanted to show their support to those affected by the acts of vandalism.

“It’s very important that we speak out against hate anywhere and everywhere when it rears its ugly head and we’re here united in New York City with people of different religions and backgrounds to protest this anti semitic act,” said Queens Councilman David Weprin.
“We wanted to send a clear message to the Venezuelan-Jewish community. We wanted to let them know that they’re not alone,” said Ruben Kliksberg, a protest organizer.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has since condemned the vandalism.

Chavez appears to speak with a forked tongue. One side says allows acts against Jewish people and the other side condemns acts against us.
Mr. Chavez, are you serious about position on equality?

I was there last evening, and it was a great show of support for Venezuelan Jews. Where are you yeshivish/chassidish people to stand up for your brothers and sisters when they need your help (Torah learning and tfillos are of paramount importance, but why delegate all participation in demonstrations to yidden who aren’t mostly there yet in terms of observance)?

Isn’t Chavez a good friend of Hussein Obama? Isn’t Obama ready to have lunch with Chavez. I think that those stupid liberal Jews have a lot to think about.
