Trump said at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that “the time has come” for “new immigration rules” that would require those seeking admission to the country to be able to support themselves financially and would bar the use of welfare for a period of at least five years.

He said his administration would be “putting in legislation to that effect very shortly.”

It is unclear, however, how Trump’s proposal would change the current situation.

U.S. immigration law already bars most foreigners who enter the country on immigrant visas from being eligible for federal benefits like Social Security and food stamps for the first five years. States typically have the authority to determine eligibility for local programs.

Foreigners with non-immigrant visas and those who don’t have legal status are generally prohibited from those benefits altogether.

The sign in the picture says “Promises Made” – I’d like to see his tax returns.

But there are so many exceptions to the current rule. Also, they all go on Medicaid, which costs the taxpayers tons of money.

The article notes that this is no different than current rules. That might be true but those laws are ignored. Nobody mentions Hospitals, our hospitals are full of these illegals. Hospitals are not permitted to refuse care no matter what expense till the patient is fully stabilized and has an alternative. When these patients can not pay the Government makes up the cost, partly by a surcharge on other patients.

If a person comes to the US and falls on hard times, should we let his child suffer? What if the child is born in America?

The present law has this restriction already. No matter what Donald says illegal aliens are entitled to no benefits other than emergency Medicaid. They get no welfare of Food Stamps and support themselves by picking your vegetables, cleaning your houses or delivering your groceries.
