The state-of the art electronic gadget geared to the religious public will be unveiled tomorrow morning at the office of the city’s Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, who will “give his blessings” to the device.
The device, which was developed over the last year by Mio Technology, will also list thousands of points of interest in Israel, including holy sites, synagogues, cemeteries, and ritual baths.
In keeping with the strictest religious sensitivities, the device, aptly dubbed Mio Ma’amin (“Mio Believer”), will use only a man’s voice and does not have telephone functions or allow Internet access.
Some of the device’s attractions will only be available in either Hebrew or English, while the blessings and prayers are currently only in Hebrew.
“These are new tidings for millions of mitzva-observant people in Israel who are looking for suitable solutions for their lifestyle,” said Guy De-Piccotto, director general of Ronlight Digital, the exclusive marketer of Mio Technology products in Israel.
The price of the kosher GPS starts at NIS 990.
I just rented a car with Eldan and had a Mio GPS! It is amazing technology. From Maa’lot in the North to Rashbam St. in Bnei Brak to see R. Chaim Kanievsky!
Plug in the address. Click start route. No problem! Baruch Hashem!
what’s next a kosher bluetooth that only let’s u hear something that’s not loshon hora?
I think the rabonim should get together & show true achdus and ban all other non kosher GPS
Is it compatible with a garmin nuvi?
I think it should be incorporated on the Nuvi’s aswell. I have chinees and italian but not kosher as an option for restaurants.
#3,
And ruin my parnassa ?
Does it have luach zmanim is the BIG QUESTION… so if you want to find out netz for the location your in.. just punch it in!
the challenge of GPS in israel would be having to drive thru the dangerous areas does this device route your trip accordingly to avoid chas v’shalom driving thru gaza or something similiar?
So if you live in the U.S. you can’t get it?
Hatzalah has it for the camps in the catskills and it is available to download for most portableGPS unit’s. I am not sure if you can install it in built-in GPS systems. It would be nice to have other POI like shuls, Mikvah’s, just don’t expect to get a dime from anyone for it.
Where is the womens version, with only a womans voice for lady drivers? Oh, I forgot, women are not aloud to drive…
Hope its not a womans voice – maybe LIPA
Whats not kosher with a nuvi gps?
Will it route you to a kosher pizza shop at 1:00 am?
In the MIO’s toolbox you can turn “borders” mode on and off. When you rent it, its turned on and this prevents “west bank” travel. We wanted to go to the techelet factory and the dead sea, so we simply turned borders mode off. Amazing!
I was later with my friend you just made Aliya who had to pick up his kid in Beit Shemesh. His wife had given him a 7 turn directions list. I had the MIO in my pocket, asked him the address, plugged it in, and BOOM, it took us right there. My fried was like, “my life would have been so much easier the last year if I had one of those!”
I have the kosher American GPS for the last month. It’s fabulous but someone must work out the kinks in the system. For example when you type in lakewood it will not come up. The user must type in Fakewood NJ to get the correct routing.
When typing in Boro park the gpd asks if you want addresses with no double parking and then they send you to to the closest place you can find parking and that is the Atlantic ocean. Isn’t that 4 miles away?
I still love the kosher gps.
Does anyoen know which other non food items are going to be kosher and is this gps kosher for passover?
if u want to go to a theater will it not direct you there??

No telephone functions? Pardon my blithering ignorance, but what on earth is un-kosher about telephone functions??!!!
The iPhone has applications that do all the above and so much more.
dose somebody know were i could rent this in israel when i go next month
