REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton New York – President Donald Trump fired chief strategist Steve Bannon on Friday, the White House announced, ending the turbulent tenure of a rabble-rousing conservative media entrepreneur and political activist who was a darling of Trump’s base.

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

A source familiar with the decision, which had been under consideration for a while, said Bannon had been given an opportunity to depart on his own terms. “The president made up his mind on it over the past couple of weeks,” the source said.

Kelly had been evaluating Bannon’s role within the White House. “They gave him an opportunity to step down knowing that he was going to be forced to,” the source said.

Bannon damaged his standing by giving an interview to the liberal American Prospect this week in which he was seen to be undercutting Trump’s position on North Korea.

Bannon told associates he thought he was talking to an academic and thought he was off the record.

He had told friends he could go back to the right-wing Breitbart News outlet, which he had headed before he took over as chief of Trump’s presidential campaign in August 2016.

If he goes, that’s the end of any hope of success for Trump. He’s surrounded himself 100% with establishment types otherwise. Oh well.

I haven’t heard a reason or justification for the dismissal. I personally have many, but I was never a Trump or Bannon supporter. I would like to know what Trump’s own reason is for dismissing his man. What is he going to tell his supporters is the reason for the dismissal.

What is the reason that Trump is giving for the dismissal? I would like to hear what he is telling his supporters is the reason he decided to fire Bannon.

Bannon can now go back to Breitbart or get a job with loony Alex Jones of Infowars. Bannon was no friend to the Jews

Trump basically got rid of Steve Bannon because he was outshining Trump, and was perceived of having more power than Trump; Trump does not like anyone whom the media seems to adore more than him. I have no problem with Bannon leaving, as General Kelley is a good man, and he would not have tolerated Bannon. Incidentally, Bannon’s ex-wife stated that Bannon did not want his daughter going to a certain private school for girls since he stated that “there were too many Jewish girls enrolled at that school”. I believe that his ex-wife stated the facts, accurately.

People leave all administrations. The difference here is that few Republicans are willing to work for this President. Consider what this means.

Let’s suppose a Democrat is elected in 2020. Presume he serves until 2028 and is followed by a Republican. If we think few members of this tainted administration will be politically acceptable, this new President will have to find staffers who were last in the White House in 2008, twenty years before.

That is going to be tough.
