The Annie Hall director filed suit against the company last year, claiming advertising chiefs used his likeness on billboards without his consent.
He was depicted dressed as a rabbi in ads placed across New York and Los Angeles.
Allen is adamant his usual asking price for appearing in a commercial is $10 million - but American Apparel bosses are now demanding the legendary filmmaker proves it in court.

Someone Frum should file a lawsuit against them for placing an immoral misfit in the guise of a holy Rabbinic leader and exposing this to tens of thousands of members of a religion. You wouldn't dress a pig as mohammed and place it on bill boards on Detroit, why are you doing it in NY and LA? Especially a guy that had an affair with his underaged step-daughter.

If he wins the case, this ehrleche yid should share a portionof the $10 million with the "rabbonim" whose image was also used.....while he is a big baal tzadakah, Allen is not necessarily a role model for young rabbonim who want to pursue a career in Holywood.

The only relationship with the Jewish people that Alan Koeningsberg (Woody Allen) has ever had, by his own admission, is stealing from the pushka as a kid and condeming the treatment of Palestinians (sic). Nothing about this sick incestuous man deserves mention on vos is neias.

Sorry, Reb Woody, the joke's on you.
But we're not laughing . . . and you won't be either.

Reminds me of a true story:
This elderly clean shaven Yid from Poland used to review the daily obituaries in a particular city in the US. He would find uninformed or uneducated women whose husband had passed away and attend their funerals, Before the funeral he would approach the widow and ask her "Would you like me to say Kaddish for your dearly departed husband at his grave?" The women, flustered and naive would usually say ok. He would then tell them that the cost of his 'service' was $50.00, but with a beard it was doubled to $100.00. When the woman unknowingly answered "with a beard" believing that this was more choshuv, he pulled out a long white beard from his pocket, put it on his face and said Kaddish.

I guess nobody here knows that the image of Allen here is a scene from Annie Hall. In the scene, Allen's character is a frei Jewish man who's dating a super-waspy shiksa. We see from his eyes that he perceives her and her family family as ideal. Then we see him from the girl's grandmother's eyes and what she sees is the chasidish guy in the billboard--even thought he's not dressed that way at all. Allen was making a comment about hidden antisemitism and how a Jew is a Jew is a Jew.

If you have seen a woody Allen movie, that is nothing to be proud of. You put money into the pockets of this Jew hating pervert.

What's so terrible if a frei yid actually directed something funny? Personally, I think it's easier to laugh our way out of stand-offs with frei'ah yidden than to try to stare them down (as long as they express some discreetness with their jokes, etc.). Also, if Allen had the zechus to learn from an ehrliche yid, he would be a tremendous tzadik and respected talmid chachom.

Woody Allen is allowed to marry his daughter and but no one should use his disguise? He is in disgrace, not in disguise.

...With Allen being 6'-4" (rather 4'-6") we don't have to afraid of a standoff. Anyway, in my opinion he deserves the $10mil. just for that Nebby look!!!!

...N' I thought that the story would go off in a [completely] different direction. Here's my spin. He would seek out (at funerals) a rich widow, offer to marry her.... Well, the story is till in development. To be continued...!!!

He should be challenged to "PROVE HIS WORTH AS A YID" The adage of "A Jew is a Jew is a Jew" is such nonsense. it is totally against the Torah ! The measure of a Jew is Torah and the value of the Jew is obedience of Torah!

what you are saying is true externally but the essence of EVERY jew,the pintele yid,is a''chelek mie elokah'' and is therefore infinite in scope and value.hence a jew is indeed a jew.

Nice to know we have such heilgier yidden left who can know the true worth of a Jew. Unlike say, Reb Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev, who would surely disagree with you.
The measure of a Jew is infinite and neither you nor I are in ANY place to judge. Get off your pedestal and learn a little chasidus. Or Musar if that suits you better.

This whole claim seems outlandish. If the company used copyrighted mat'l, they should have to pay damages - plain and simple - this is actually unheard of in today's commercial environment - certainly the photo had 'rights reserved'.

American Apparel knew exactly what they were doing and wanted an ad that would cause controversy, hence generate more free publicity. I recall hearing the redhead Berel Berko from Boro Park who is the PR sidekick to fashion designer Levi Okunov, claimed to have master-minded this.

She was an adopted daughter, not a step daughter, and she was 22 years old at time. 22 isn't "underaged" anywhere that I'm aware of.
