Jerusalem - "The American demand to prevent natural growth is unreasonable, and brings to mind Pharaoh who said: Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river," Science Minister and Habayit Hayehudi head Daniel Herschkowitz said Sunday, referring to US President Barack Obama's demand to freeze all settlement activity, even that ensuing from natural growth.

Speaking ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting, mathematician Herschkowitz furthered his point with a simple equation. "If there is a family that expands from one child to four or five, what should we tell them - to ship the children off to Petah Tikva? This is an unacceptable demand, even if it comes from the Americans, and Israel should reject it decisively," he affirmed.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai said, "The American demand to freeze construction means expulsion for young people living in large locales. I hope the US administration understands that. If not, I don't want to be an apocalyptic prophet saying we're facing struggle and confrontation. The concessions they're demanding of us are a security impediment we cannot withstand."

Information and Diaspora Minister Yuli Edelstein chose a positive perspective on the dispute threatening an Israeli-American rift.

"The recent days prove what luck we have that it is [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu's government conducting talks on West Bank natural growth and construction in Jerusalem," he said. "Just imagine someone else, he would have led us to an entanglement lasting generations."

"We aren't headed for a confrontation with the White House, but rather for understandings, and Netanyahu's visit there proved it. President Obama is a friend of Israel, and I'm sure we can resolve the disagreements," Edelstein added.

Welfare and Social Services Minister Isaac Herzog of the Labor party stressed the importance in preventing a head-on collision with Obama.

"The current American administration sees things differently than the last two presidents did. Construction is being undertaken around Jerusalem according to understandings with previous administrations. Israel wants very much to reach understandings, and Defense Minister Ehud Barak's upcoming trip to Washington proves it," Herzog said.

Tell Mr. PHAROH/OBAMA to mind his own business. There are more problems at this time in History in America more than in Israel. High inflation, gas soaring, un-employment at a record high, market down, banks in downfall etc. etc. It is time OBAMA stayed put and placed his energy on domestic soil and not HOLYLAND SOIL.......Wake up OBAMA and smell the coffee, or else it gets rancid like your stupid policies about Israel.

There is one thing that the Israeli Govt hasnt learned in a while and that is when to tell the US govt to go to you know where. Maybe if they stand up to the Obamanation he will cower like a puppy dog?

Many years ago I think it was Natanyahu who threatened not to "buy" arms from the Izzys and the USA shut up.

Obama is right. Settlements should be closed, and a wall should be put up between palestine and israel, and the problem is over.

Perhaps if the Israelis see this as Paaroh, they might also want to see their salvation as coming from Hashem. A nice approach would be to stop undermining everything that He wants. Maybe then we would also merit a "Moshe."

Until they send rockets over the wall. It should take about a minute. That's what happened in Gaza. And when Israel finally attacked Gaza, this was not justifiable in the eyes of the world.

Colonized????

They have been there for over 1300 years! And as monotheists they have the right to live in Eretz Yisrael if they want to. Indeed a large fraction of Arab citizens of Israel vote for Zionist political parties!

Get rid of the terrorists. But most Arabs aren't terrorists.

What difference does it make how long ago they colonised? (Not to mention the fact that most of them came far more recently.) What gives them the right to live there?

But that aside, if Jews are to be expelled from some areas, so they can be given away with the purpose of maintaining a Jewish majority in what's left (and that seems to be the rationale du jour for this wicked proposal) then why shouldn't Arabs be expelled from the areas that Israel will keep? What gives Arabs *more* right than Jews to live peacefully in their homes in EY?

The Torah gives a monotheist the right to settle permanently in EY as a Ger Toshav, and Chazal speak quite favorably of such individuals! Muslims and Druze are unquestionably monotheists, and Christians probably are as well (machloket poskim; Remah holds definitively that they are). Jews and non-Jews have the right to live peacefully in their homes in EY. And I've never seen any source that would justify the expulsion of a Ger Toshav.

1. The law of ger toshav depends on the yovel. Since the late first bayis there has been no yovel, and therefore no such thing as a ger toshav.

2. A ger toshav must do more than be a monotheist, he must accept all of the 7 mitzvos, and explicitly do so because Hashem revealed them to Moshe on Har Sinai.

3. A ger toshav is a stranger, not a citizen; he must acknowledge that the country is not his, that he is a guest in our country. When he fancies himself an owner, then his welcome has worn out.

4. Where is this Ramo?

5. That's just it: Jews AND non-Jews! Whatever right non-Jews have to live peacefully in their homes in EY, it can hardly be greater than the right of Jews to do the same! What source justifies the expulsion of a Jew? If Jews can be expelled, kal vachomer that so can goyim.
