Washington - First Time In Decades: Iranian Officials Invited to Fourth of July Events |

US embassies around the world mark the Fourth of July holiday, which in the past has included serving hot dogs and patriotic themes. Iranian officials have not been invited to attend these events since formal diplomatic relations were severed three decades ago.
"We review these types of invitations every year, and a decision was made this year to invite officials from Iran," State Department deputy spokesman Robert Wood said. "So this is very much in line with our policy of trying to engage the Iranian government."
The State Department issued a cable telling US missions that Iranian officials "may be invited" to the events, Wood said, adding that final decisions will be left to individual embassies.
Obama has said he is open to a broader dialogue with the Iranian government to work on resolving differences, and hopes to see a positive response from Tehran by the end of this year.
The United States declared independence from Britain on July 4, 1776.

for thirty years the iranians were never invited to our celebrations, however our young president thinks he is smarter and wiser! Its a shame Mr. Obama did not run to become the president of Iran because then you would not have to feel that you have to appease everyone and make all the moslems happy. What would you have him do...continue the same policies of the past such as we have done with North Korea that now has us on the brink...lets at tleast talk to these meshugoim in Iran..we have nothing to lose and might actually find some way (short of nuking them) to eliminate their nuclear program

HOW DARE YOU compare Obama to Chabad?
Chabad has and always had very strong standards when it came to dealing with out and out rishus and reshoim - this has nothing to do with being mekarev anyone.
The only thing any of the Chabad rebbeim would have done with the likes of Ahmadinejad is cursed them to a miserable death. Neither of the Rebbeim who were alive when Stalin YMS was advocated anything remotely resembling appeasement of that rosho - and we all know what the latest Rebbe's view was on Arab rishus and how to deal with it.

no the european appeasment approach was tried for six years and all it did was buy iran more and more time. Obama wants to do the same exact thing now which is even more ridiculous because now the scale is clearly in irans favor. tell me how obamas approach will work since europesapproach was utter failure?
