Passaic, NJ - Video Captures New Jersey Police Officer Pound Man For No Apparent Reason |

The beating was captured on surveillance cameras outside Lawrence's Grill and Bar in Passaic, New Jersey.
Surveillance tape from Lawrence's Grill and Bar in Passaic on May 29 shows a police car pull up to Ronnie Holloway, who is standing still on the curb outside the restaurant. After a few moments Holloway zips up his sweatshirt -- because the female officer in the car instructed him to do so, Holloway said.
At that point, the other officer in the vehicle, Joseph R. Rios III, exits the car, grabs Holloway and slams him onto the hood of the police car. He then pummels Holloway with his fist and baton.
Holloway said he had exchanged no words with the officer before he pounced on him.
After the incident, police locked Holloway in a holding cell for the night and did not provide treatment for his injuries, according to Holloway's attorney, Nancy Lucianna. Those injuries included a torn cornea and extensive bruising to the left side of his body, she said.
Holloway is schizophrenic, according to his mother, Betty, with whom he has lived for more than 20 years. But Holloway's attorney says that is not the full extent of his mental disabilities and that her client was "mentally challenged on multiple levels."
At the time of the incident, Holloway told CNN, he was in the midst of a walk around the neighborhood. His attorney described such walks as his chief pastime.
The Passaic Police have filed three charges against Holloway: resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and wandering for the purpose of obtaining controlled dangerous substances.
Holloway's attorney maintains her client is innocent of all charges and adds that "nothing that Ronnie Holloway was doing would warrant" the pounding he received.
Betty Holloway said she cannot bear to watch the tape of her son's beating.
"I haven't looked at the tape because I don't want to see it," she said. "I don't want to see that man beating on him like that."
Holloway said the experience has left him with a range of scars spanning the literal and the figurative. "To think about it hurts. And the physical part, yes, he was really whooping me."

Thank g-d for cameras. There should be cameras everywhere to catch these animals.
The charge of resisting arrest needs to be wiped from the books. A person should have the right to question why he is being roughed up by a officer.

Thankfully it was caught on tape. I hope that animal rots in hell forever and the victim should get a good settlement.

There should be video all over and stop those chayas from doing what they want. the power the police have today is redicules, they can ticket you on talking on cell phone while you might not even have a cell phone or seatbelts etc. I hope by more stories like this being published that it will change a little.

Lucky you, you have been endowed with the extraordinary gifts of super vision and telepathy. You can see something in that videotape that no one else does and you KNOW that this man (who, by the way, had no money on him at the time) was waiting to buy drugs. It's difficult to buy drugs without money but with your superior genius I'm certain you'll come up with a way he was planning to pay for those imaginary drugs.

Lots of law enforcements officeers abuse thier authority, they think they can just do what ever they wants ,, its because they have a badge,,wrong because cameras wont tell a lie, I love to see those abusive authority officeers got fire and put them on jail for assault , the only reason they used force is if they have reasons and to defend themselves, but beating up some citizens that are innocents,, like to see them leave with out pay or get fired. I am hoping that man will sue them that give them lessons.

What's really sad is that this happens by far more then you could ever imagine. I grew up in Jersey City, and it seems every other person on my block became a cop. I still hang out with my old friends for special occasions, which are filled with cops. The stories, every time without fail turn to how they beat this guy or beat that guy and about how they had it coming because of some stupid reason, which is almost never because he threw a punch. I always ask aren't you afraid of the cameras in the car, they always reply we know where the blind spots are, luckily, this time, another camera caught the beating. Are the stories true, or exaggerated boasting, I don't know, either way it's very disheartening. All this begs the question, who is policing the police, and right now it's no one.

It is painfully obvious that: A) You are either one of these under-educated and over-paid uncivil servants who protect each other by their "hypocritical oath" to each other or: B) You have been paid by the PPD legal counsel to provide this puke. This totalitarian-style brutality is reminiscent of the Beer Hall Putche which set the stage for what America and its European allies fought and endured unimaginable suffering. Yosef, what country do you live in and where were you born? How do you know he was looking to buy drugs? 'Cause the police said so right? I guess since it's just another black guy it doesnt really matter right? First, why was he even stopped? Second, since when do the police have the authority to tell you to "Zip up your jacket" are they the fashion police? key word there is "your" jacket. Third what probable cause is there to arrest someone for "wandering" we have freedom of movement in this country.And lastly, what even prompted the officer to get out of the car and start punching a civilian? It's people, or should I say "Sheeple" like you who allow our rights as citizens of America to be eroded and to exist in a virtual police state. Those who allow themselves to have thier rights usurped, thier fellow citizens beaten in the streets and allow injustice go unchallenged are nothing more than obedient slaves to a society well on it's way to fascism.

I watched this and was amazed. First of all what right do the police have to tell you anything about how to dress. Have you ever been to the gym and seen how much skin those people show, the female officer has no buisness telling this guy about his chest showing! Second I have to say that there was no warnings or instructions this Joseph R. Rios III should totally be fired and brought up on charges. His partner and all the people involved in this guys arrest and lack of treatment should all be faceing administrative dicipline. The police chief should also too be held accountable for allowing this to go on in his department. This type of behaviour must STOP! I hope they get sued and that this is aired all over the world. One last word when the hell is it against the law to walk anywhere at anytime of night! This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA its a FREE country.

Watch the whole video you armchair quarterbacks. This guy obviously wasn't doing what he was told. He didn't even react to the cop's stick hitting him. Maybe he was high. The cops usually want a person to lay down with his hands in back, this guy wasn't doing that and kept getting up. His own fault.

This is what can happen when the former mayor (now imprisoned for corruption) has three sons and one daughter on the police force. The daughter was on the force even though she failed the police exam, until a local newspaper wrote about it. When the police force thinks it is the mayor's little army, they act out of control. Time to clean it up under the new mayor.
