Crown Heights, NY – A top Jewish leader of a new Crown Heights, Brooklyn, neighborhood patrol group created to improve racial harmony has a criminal record for beating a black girl 14 years ago, the Daily News has learned.

Leib Skoblo, 33, who appeared with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly at the group’s launch last week, spewed racial epithets and punched a black girl in 1995, court records show.
Skoblo’s victim said he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a group designed to lower tensions between blacks and Jews.
“I think it is disgusting,” said Izena Goudy, 25, now a member of the Army National Guard. “It is the same thing if a pedophile applies for a job in a kindergarten.”
Goudy’s ordeal began as she walked her little sister to school at Public School 161 on Crown St. on March 30, 1995.
Leib Skoblo’s younger brother, who was 12 years old at the time, started taunting her with racial slurs, Goudy recalled.
Skoblo, then 19, and his mother, Ella, followed Goudy and chased her away from the school screaming threats.
Leib Skoblo finally caught up with the much younger girl on Nostrand Ave. nearby and took a swing at her.
“He hit me so hard it stunned me,” she said. “It left me a nice bruise.”
Skoblo and his mother were both arrested, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child on Sept. 27, 1995, and was sentenced to three years of probation.
The nasty incident didn’t prevent Skoblo from being feted last week as one of the coordinators for the new integrated Crown Heights patrol.
He and the group were outfitted with black jackets, ID cards and hybrid cars with NYPD emblems after 60 hours of training.
“The Police Department is reviewing the matter, including his application to participate,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne.
Leib Skoblo said he was too busy to talk yesterday, and his family later said he had left for a vacation in Israel.
His sister said cops should have known about Skoblo’s record.
“All I know is that he didn’t do anything wrong,” said the sister, who wouldn’t give her name.

What difference does race make when the fact remains that this guy punched a CHILD? I’m sorry, I don’t care what the circumstances are, someone who punches a child is most certainly not fit to lead any organization.

And this is why the Shomrim have refused to join the organization. Most of the Shmira members have criminal backgrounds. It’s just a matter of time before it all becomes public.

The fact is that this is a very public position. He may be suitable for a “backstage” position, but nothing that would turn a spotlight on him. If the point really is to work on race relations, you have to find a squeaky-clean front-man for the job.
This guy is typical of every JDLer and “Jewish Self-Defense” punk I ever met. A big man when it comes to punching 12 year old girls (he was 19 at the time). He and others like him are bullys and cowards. Jewish safety and security are not served by the likes of him.
If the Daily News is correct, I think they should give away his position to someone else. This is a very important job. The Jewish Crown Heights community must, repeat MUST, show sensitivity to the feelings of the other residents of Crown heights. By bringing in new leadership, the other neighbors will se that the Jews take that history seriously and that peace is the real aim here, not politics.

Leib Skoblo was arrested because this black girl did not tell the truth . She fabricated a story and Leib Skoblo was arrested . These jew haters and anti semites should not be allowed to besmearch a respected organiser in the CH community

The article is inflammatory. The headline states in part “leader beat black girl”. Firstly he was not a leader at the time, secondly in the article it states that he hit her once after his little brother was taunted. Clearly it is was ok for him to hit her even once His action at the time was wrong and he paid the consequences of that act. The incident occurred 14 years ago, it is at least a possibility that his opinions have changed and he is actually interested in improving relationships and building understanding to lessen racial conflicts between these two groups? If he is a leader in his community, he is in a position to get others to be cooperative in the effort for improved relations. it is disgraceful and counterproductive to use this incident to flame further conflict. In the civil rights movement it was the Jews that marched with Reverend King arm in arm and partnered to establish the NAACP. Social justice is something these two groups can work together to achieve. Peace
I don’t believe he would have punched a twelve year old girl for no reason, and I am sure the story was embellished and refabricated to suit the other side.

The only way the truth be told, is if the girl comes forward with her version of exactly what happened on that day. Rumor has it that the Trauancy Officer fabricated this story so the table will turn on Skoblo.

if you all want the true story if i remember correct there was a incident and with this teenage girl and the police were looking for this guy who “punched her” and someone from the community counsel asked Mr. Skoblo because he fit the girls description to go in and the police will let him out the back door to keep from any riots starting and for with his luck the police did not keep to there deal they made with the CHJCC and he went through the system. Even when he was young he put his neck out for the community just like he does now every day instead of putting his time in to building his business he is out on the streets working to make us safer. should the city be wasting money that is hard to come by. on something that is not 100% needed. Shomrim was needed 15-30 years ago when it was not safe to walk around any where you live. give the money to a org, that needs it.

That incident has already made a report to lock-up the residents who were in disaggreement with Shomrim. Therfore, the other group convinced the boys to counter charge in order for their silver jewlery to come off.

Now for the truth, they girls where harrasing his brother, so he chased them, and called police, when the police came she made up a story that he hit her, he landed up makeing a plea deal, that he would have no record, and 3 years probation, so he agreed, but they lied to him, and this is the end result.
BTW they all had FBI backround checks before they joined COP.
I don’t know why your defending leib skblo he is also an NYPD Auxiliary officer why would you trust someone to watch over your community that is a racist and let alone be part of a ceviion watch group.

first: Mr. Leib Skoblo never pleaded guilty to anything. after a trial that cost him $50,000.00 to defend himself from pure racism and hatred by this black thug and her lowlife mother, he was found guilty of MISDEMINOR endangering the welfare of a minor, and acquitted of FELONY assault and hate crime charges, by a grand jury that happened to have 6 black on it.
second: Skoblos’ younger brother who was 10 and very small at the time was attacked and viciously beaten by this young black thug who was about twice the size of the young skoblo, when he cried for help his mother and brother came running, at this point the young thug took off running with Leib Skoblo and his mother right after her, the black thug then ran to the public school which was about a block away and was protected by other blacks at the school, and that is where it ended.
I want to be very clear at no point did either Skoblo mother or son put a finger on this thug.
The black mother and daughter then went to the police with the blood lible that the Jew hit her in the face, the cops did not have a clue who they were looking for only an approximate location of where the Skoblos lived, so the lousy police went to the community leader at the time (Rabbi Spilman) and threatened him that if the guy who was involved in this is not given up, the community would suffer, and that if he turned himself in, the DA promised an ACD. Spilman being naive as he is, pushed Skoblo and his mom to go to the police and guaranteed him carte blanch.
Sure enough, due to fear of black pressure (al sharpton) and riots Skoblo was hanged and charged with every conceivable count including multiple felonies of which he was later acquitted.

i personally know the skoblo family well and the shomrim who “leaked” this story to the daily news, magically left out some very important details such as the true story about the black girl who scratched and hit the young skoblo boy first for absolutely no reason. Leib was simply protecting his younger brother. Leib only pled guilty as he knows the reputation of the black community who will find every opportunity to incite a riot. The story is false and grossly exaggerated.
Anyone who knows Leib, then or now, would know that he is NOT a blood hungry person. Leib is such a decent guy. The most scary thing about him is is size, and that is to his disadvatage that is makes him look like he’s capable of doing such a thing. I remember the incident, and I can guarantee you that it did not happen the way it is being reported. Leib, there are a lot of pple who stand behind you. Continue doing what you do.
