New York - Albany Politics Getting Dirtier By The Day |
|
Asked about the fact that Monserrate is facing felony assault charges and Espada has been both delinquent in filing his campaign finance reports and under investigation by AG Andrew Cuomo's office, Golisano replied:
"Don’t talk to me about ethical backgrounds in Albany, New York. We have a governor who stood on a podium on national television and said he had extramarital affairs and used cocaine. These guys have some personal issues? I don’t think they're part of the picture."
Recall that Paterson took a bit of a shot at the retired Paychex billionaire in response to the news that Golisano would be moving to Florida as a result of the PIT increase passed by the Legislature and signed into law by the governor, saying there are a number of other people also hurt by the 2009-2010 budget who "can't afford to leave the state right now."
To be fair, Paterson did say that he hoped Golisano would be back in New York three years from now when the PIT sunsets. He was clearly feeling a lot less kindly toward Golisano at last night's Red Room press conference.
Golisano also took issue with the suggestion that he somehow bought off Espada and Monserrate by promising to support them in the 2010 elections.
"I think it’s very interesting that somebody who takes all kinds of special interest money, a governor who holds $100,000-a-table fundrasiers, blames me for trying to influence financially an election," Golisano said. "That’s the way they operate in this state and the country."
"...If Mr. Espada and the other senator are interested in getting reforms done, and the reforms are ones Responsible New York are interested in, we’re going to support them. If they want to pass budgets like the ones passed last April, we’re not going to support them. it’s Clear as a bell."
A reader notes even a billionaire is supposed to be bound by the state Election Law.
Says the reader: "Not that Espada cares about campaign finance rules, but Golisano's announcement that he will protect Espada, presumely with an unauthorized committe, pretty blatantly flies in the face of Election Law Section 14-126.4."

We do not need criminals running the Senate-- even if it is their "personal" business! Their personal business is OUR business!!

They should kick out every single senator, no matter which party. And who is this Golisano clown that he feels that because he has money to spend, the NY State Senate should be his wholly-owned subsidiary.

To #4 Golisano has $$$$$ so he feels is a privileged character!! Better than any of us!! Do we have to change the rules for one person because he has money?? I say NO!! He is not the only person in the USA who donated to a candidate and you do not see them running to their different states to change their rules!!! He wants to run the state his way because he donated some money!!! Well, you can't have your cake and eat it too!! He is just going to have to pay his taxes like the rest of us!! The difference is, he has the MONEY so he should NOT be crying!! If he backed the wrong horse, then that is his problem and not the state's!! The Senate remains democratic!!!You can't stop swimming mid=stream!!!

You can, however, stop spouting incoherent nonsense. All I can gather from this is that you envy Golisano his money. Well, it's his, it rightfully belongs to him, and you have no right to a penny of it. And yes, wealth does come with privileges.

With all that is wrong with our govenrment, a real change is needed still, and this will only be the beginning of more changes until somebody gets it right. The Anti Constitutional laws that are being passed and proposed are nothing more than treason. NAFTA , again amounts to treason against the people of this great land. Making it cheaper to manufacture and ship goods from other countries and putting Americans out of work and into welfare and unemployment lines...again TREASON ! We have too many Illegal immigrants that we are supporting, and no one does anything about this. Politicians regulary take money from unethical corporate sources that are placing all of their manufacturing outside the U.S. to avoid paying taxes and We The People are letting our goventment, let them get away with it. We need to stop the corporate welfare, huge bonuses to failing corporate heads and make it cheaper to make goods here at home instead of "third world countries" or China : where the human rights policies are HORRIBLE. We support this insanity everytime we buy goods from these places. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WAKE UP ?
