Tel Aviv, Israel – An Israeli woman threw out an old mattress – not realising it was stuffed with her mother’s $1 million life-savings.

The culprit, identified only as Anat, had bought the new bedding as surprise for her elderly relative.
But her mother only told her about the hidden stash of money after the old mattress had already been thrown away. And when she went to look for the mattress, it had already been taken by binmen in Tel Aviv.
Anat’s actions sparked a frantic – and so far fruitless – search through tons of rubbish at three landfill sites in Tel Aviv.
Yitzhak Borba, a manager at one of the dumps, said she appeared ‘totally desperate’ but the mattress was hard to find amid the 2,500 tonnes of rubbish left every day.
He said he had increased security at the site to keep would-be treasure hunters at bay.
For her part, Anat said it could be worse. ‘People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad,’ she said.

oich mir a yiddeshe kop . stuffing cash under her mattress for decades . probably a holoucost surviver fearing that hitler might come back at any moment . stuffing cash in a mattress is silly idea of course because of inflation . my guess is that she had by now no more then twenty percent of what she put in

Now I understand why she threw away the mattress, it was very uncomfortible to sleep on such a mattress, has anyone tried sleeping on a mattress filled with paper?

Let this be a lesson.
Children should not treat their parents as if they were babies. It is totally disrespectful to replace anything in a parent’s home “as a surprise”. Children think it’s cute, getting Mommy a new whatever, while she is away for a couple of hours. It shows utter disrespect and chutzpah of mega proportions, treating a parent as if they were already senile, and aren’t able to make their own decisions.
another thing, there is no mention of her mothers take on this. Why? She probably had a cononary!!

Ofcourse she gets credit for her attitude. Whatever remains of that life insurance after her mother’s passing, will be hers!!!
next time you see a mattress in the garbage or at a garage sale grab it

Not smart not to tell the kids about the money , got forbid something happens to her & no one knows about the money it would of go to the garbage any way.

I think she found out her mother has a Million dollars in the mattress but couldn’t figure out how to steal it, so she replaced the mattress by surprise, took the million and acted like she didn’t know,,,,,, now she can say Gaam Zu Letovah
The daughter knew about the money and took it the whole thing was a set up there is no money left in it
