Kufstein, Austria - An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from Bolzano-Bozen province, had been on holiday in Brazil with her husband Kurt and missed Air France Flight 447 after turning up late at Rio de Janeiro airport on May 31.

All 228 people aboard lost their lives after the plane crashed into the Atlantic four hours into its flight to Paris.

The couple had managed to pick up a flight from Rio the following day. But Ms Ganthaler died when their car veered across a road in Kufstein, Austria, and swerved into an oncoming truck. Her husband was seriously injured.

In response to almost all the commenters before me,
What I seem to be reading in your comments is, that her time was up at the time of the ill fated flight, she missed the flight, thereby besting God at the death game. Comes the great commenters of VIN to tell you, you can't beat God. It was her time, so she died, OVER A WEEK LATER!
Apparently you're all wrong. Her time was NOT last week on the doomed Air France flight, it was this week in a car wreck.
Nothing to do with plane crashes.

you can also look at this story in a different light. The husband was not supposed to die, only the wife, so maybe that's why they missed the plane.

As the famous saying goes: "If the bullets got your name .... " Live life to its fullest, walk on the streets, drive your car, take the ferry, train, plane, don't be afraid to do things cause something might happen. (btw I'm not talking about acting irrational - like jumping out the window, or walking into a car.

what is the lesson?

The lesson is that Hashem counts out people's years and days, and each one is important. This woman had 10 days left to live, so Hashem arranged for her to be delayed on her way to the airport. One could ask why He should "bother" doing a miracle for "nothing", since it only gave her another 10 days; the fact that He did so teaches us the importance of every day. Yomim yutzoru, velo echod bohem. Who knows what she achieved in those last 10 days of her life?

The practical lesson is when someone is old and dying, and the doctors are reluctant to "waste" resources keeping him alive, since the result is inevitable anyway. And what's the big deal, they ask, if we cut someone up for spare parts five minutes before he dies instead of five minutes after? Surely the life people will get from his organs is more important than the little life we rob him of! The Torah tells us that this is wrong, that every day and every minute of life is worth fighting for, and that until Hashem wants someone back they're not welcome Upstairs, not even five minutes early.

It comes to show, if something is suposed to happen to someone, it will happen in anyway. There's no way out , because G-d wanted that this woman be taken from the world. Therefore this is News & we have t learn from it.

30,
Would this have been as newsworthy had she perrished in that car crash a year later, or 6 monthes later,,,???
I mean, who is to decide that because it was TEN DAYS later that this should be deemed a lesson more than anything else?
Hashem wanted her off this earth PERIOD. Why the drama and speculation?

Karma Dude's comment makes the most sense!
Btw, HAD she got into that crash on the way back from the airport after missing her flight, THEN the message might have 'splattered the kitchen walls'. but beyond that is just a sign that THIS WAS her time.

The "bullet with your name on it" isn't the one you have to worry about. It's the one addressed "To whom it may concern".

I don't see any connection between the two incidents, she missed the flight because she wasn't supposed to be there like everyone else who wasn't there, and she died in a car crash bec. she was supposed to like anyone else who died in a car crash that day
