Green Bay, WI - Ten-year-old Kennedy Corpus has a rock-solid excuse for missing the last day of school: a personal note to her teacher from President Barack Obama.

Her father, John Corpus of Green Bay, stood to ask Obama about health care during the president's town hall-style meeting at Southwest High School on Thursday. He told Obama that his daughter was missing school to attend the event and that he hoped she didn't get in trouble.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked. The crowd laughed, but the president was serious.

On a piece of paper, he wrote: "To Kennedy's teacher: Please excuse Kennedy's absence. She's with me. Barack Obama." He stepped off the stage to hand-deliver the note — to Kennedy's surprise.

"I thought he was joking until he started walking down," Kennedy said after the event, showing off the note in front of a bank of television cameras. "It was like the best thing ever."

The fourth-grader at Aldo Leopold elementary in Green Bay already knew what she was going to do with the note: frame it along with her ticket to the event. She said she'd make a copy for her teacher.

Kennedy said she had never seen Obama before. "He's really nice," she said.

Firstly, my parents taught me, that excused absences are reserved for sickness, and family weddings, otherwise you belong in school.

Secondly, it was made very clear to me, that a note to a teacher must be written on a respectable piece of paper, not a torn one......

As a parent, I am not very impressed with the president's message, of excused absences....

A retired secret service agent once spoke (even though they are not supposed to) about his many years on Bill Clinton's detail - he observed that whatever B.C. did - even if he went out his way for someone it was all for his personal gain. He went on to say that B.C. was totally for himself and that was his motive behind everything he did. The same can be said about Obsama - while it was a nice gesture and all, but it was just for his own agenda - that is the fact.

What a bunch of losers on this forum. He WON the election, get OVER it already! The constant whining is truly annoying to say the least. Are you gonna cry for the next 7 years now??? Yes, I'm saying 7 becuase if things continue the way they are, he's going to be re-elected. He's approval ratings are high and the GOP have no clue what to do with him, he's got them beaten to a T. Get a life all of you!

I think 99% of teachers or principals would think this was an appropriate absence. Getting to see a presidential candidate live is a terrific learning experience. Getting children interested in history and current events is a challenge for many teachers of 5th graders. This could be combined with studying about the u.s. electoral process and how that compares and contrasts with other government systems. I remember my teachers doing everything they could to try to get students to read a newpaper and be able to discuss current events. One of the purposes of schools in America is to prepare people to be good and involved citizens.
If someone otherwise has good attendance, I think it is within a parent's discretion to take a child out of school for a rare event like this. I'm sure that more than a few students were out of school to hear John McCain and Sarah Palin speak as well.

BTW - I don't think family weddings (other than immediate siblings or someone the child is particularly close to) are a reason to take a child out of school. If it's important to have all the neices and nephews and second cousins at the wedding, it should be scheduled for an appropriate time and date.

The point here is that this event was about his horrendous government health plan. This plan will put the private insurers out of business and therefore force everyone to be on the government's. A government plan will lead to rationing, long waits for emergency and other care, less innovation (just not worth it), fewer "miracle" drugs (drug companies will be squeezed), and the government deciding who gets what treatment (which will be overall less because it just may not be "economical") without having to worry about competition. There is a reason why Canadians flood the upstate New York hospitals to get normal care without a wait even if they have to pay out of pocket. This guy wants power over you, plain and simple. He sugar-coats it and diverts your attention with stunts like this teachers note.

To #10 I agree with you. The kid is not sick. The note is not from a parent or guardian! The note should not be accepted by any school. He is teaching school age children that it is ok to skip school!! Wrong message to young minds!!

Obama is not a mench by any strech... He's a liar and knows how to deceive people. So much for "hope and change" - There is no hope with him. He's running our country and economy into the ground.

Show me one politician who's not completely self-serving. This one just happens to have the gift of the gab. I wonder how long it will take for the world to quit being fooled by him and to see his Wrightfully true colors.
