Jerusalem - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he is considering assessing an $11 million fine for damage caused to U.N. facilities in Gaza against Israel.

Ban said he was acting on recommendations made by a committee established to determine the damage caused by Israeli security forces to U.N. buildings in Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.

Touching on the situation in the Gaza Strip, Ban warned if the border crossings remain closed, "the people of Gaza will slide into even deeper hardship, with the risk of further radicalization."

Earlier this month Defense Minister Ehud Barak informed Ban Israel will not cooperate with a special committee headed by South African jurist Richard Goldstone, who was tasked with investigating whether Israel had committed war crimes during the military operation in Gaza earlier this year.

Then Israel might as well fine Hamas for all the damage they have done to Israel.

Jun 12, 2009 at 11:25 AM Death to the UN Says:

The UN deserves to close all their doors in light of their corruption and non competency.

all they do is head missions that cost millions of dollars which the US funds mostly.

They are responsible for millions of people dying from Darfur Sudan to the Middle East.

they did nothing when Iraq (under Saddam) invaded Kuwait and killed 1000,s of people or when Saddam killed 1000,s of his own Iraqi citizens under the holy watch of the UN.

The so called Palestinians are and have been mostly from Arab countries and not Israel. they are rejects while the UN stood by silently and let them rot in hell for so many years that all of a sudden it became Israels problem.

I suggest the EU and the Americas to reunite especially after most of the European country's elected conservative leaders to lead their countries.

The US should spearhead the holy mission and change the name to We stand for Change not Shame

How about Israel fines the UN an equivalent amount for allowing missiles to be fired from right outside its premises, and we call it even.

The Israelis should check the fine to make sure the UN got the correct license plate number of the plane that shot the missile, because if its off by a number the ticket is invalid.

They should fine the UN $11,000,001 for the damage and expenses that Israel incurred by the Gazans in the last war and then sue the Gazans $100s of millions for all the damage done and cost of security, lost income etc over the past 60 years due to the terror they have perpetrated.

they have to pay. even though the UN are a bunch of hypocrites they can tap the aid money that is given to israel by UN member countries ie. USA. The UN is an organization that is so defunct with no central goal and u would not believe the irrational and impulsive decision making that goes on there. i know bc i currently work there on an energy subcommittee.

No, they can't "tap" any aid money. How would they? The UN isn't a government; it has no more power than you or me. Can we "fine" Israel, and then "tap" into the money the USA gives Israel?
