Winnetka, IL - A couple says their lawsuit against a neighbor stems from his assault conviction and alleged anti-Semitism.

Peggy and James Horstman are suing Paul Hoffman, 68, who was convicted in February of attacking James Horstman while the 55-year-old mowed his lawn, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday. Hoffman was sentenced to a year of court supervision.

Peggy Horstman, who is Jewish, alleges Hoffman about two years ago began stalking her and saying "her people" were not wanted in the neighborhood. Hoffman once called her a "Yenta," a Yiddish word for a "busybody or gossipy old woman," Peggy Horstman said.

"I didn't think things like this happen in this day and age," said Peggy Horstman, 56, who doesn't know how Hoffman found out she is Jewish. Her husband is Protestant.

The Horstmans' lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court alleges a "repeated course of intentional and malicious conduct to terrorize" them because of her Jewish ancestry.

Hoffman could not be reached for comment.

Hoffman is a German name, not a Jewish name. Some Jewish people have that name as they have many other German names, ie: Schwartz.

Hoffman is definitely a German name, and there are many goyim called Hoffman, especially in areas where German immigrants settled. But if this particular Hoffman is not Jewish, why would he know or use the term "Yenta", which is Yiddish and not German? Yente is a Jewish name derived either from Juanita or Gentila, and not known among Germans; and it was in Jewish society that "yente" came to mean a "kochleffel". To the extent that goyim are aware of this meaning, they tend to think it means "shadchente", because of Fiddler on the Roof.

fiddler on the roof is watched by non-jews too, jackey mason uses the word more often than a teenager says, "like". enough figures out of the "jewish society" say the word yenta, you don't have to be jewish to know what it means!!

Of course goyim watch Fiddler; I said that's where they get the WRONG idea of what Yenta means. They think it means "matchmaker". And there's no way a midwestern goy would be such a fan of Jackie Mason that he'd pick it up from there.

There are millions of Americans with German names. Pure coincidence.
