Ilana Jackson and Jeremy Fierstien went ahead with the ceremony after doctors assured them guests wouldn't be at serious risk.
But to be sure, the 26-year-olds kept a 10-foot distance from family and friends at all times, even walking around the gathering instead of down the aisle at a Highland Park synagogue.
Jackson says they'd joked about swine flu after both experienced vomiting, achy limbs and fever. But they never thought they really had it.
She says the circumstances were unfortunate but that they took it in stride.

RE: comment 1: it's not a joke, it actually happened. Most of the guests stayed away, but some came.
Re comment 12: They're modernish, but not that modern, so, at least in Parshas Shlach, let's lay off the lashon hara.

That is disgusting.
The boy is totally frum and a tremendous baal middos,
Modern Orthodox is still Orthodox. Not all families wear shtreimelach or spoddiks.

...except that if you look up this story on Yahoo! News and other non-frum sources, they show a fuller picture, where you see the bride is wearing a short-sleeved (or maybe even sleeveless) gown. That's not a matter of shtreimel vs. spodik; that's basic hilchos tznius right there.

The picture shows mixed seating by the guests, so it's not an Orthodox wedding.

Showing off your lack of knowledge? Swine flu does not need physical contact to be spread - they couldve gotten it from the same third party, or from each other by each touching the same inanimate object - pouring from the same soda bottle, for instance, or using the same telephone. Pull your mind out of the gutter! And dont make assumptions about peoples religious levels based on kippas alone!!

It is embarassing to read most of the comments here. You guys show lack of Kavod and tolerance. Maybe insead of worrying about what goes into your mouth, you should worry about what comes out of your mouth.

I still think they would have had a nicer wedding if they pushed it off another 2 weeks, and got better first, and no one would need to think anything.

You are a sonei yisroel. These are frum people. This is exactly why people do not want chareidim moving in - you are intolerant even of shomrei mitvos if they don't mirror you.

I agree, what's the point of making a wedding, inviting people, spending money, when your guests either won't show up, or keep a distance from the bride and groom. Reason enough to postpone it.
