Conyers with her Husband Congrassman John Conyer
Conyers is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery for allegedly accepting two payments from a Synagro Technologies official in late 2007, including one in a McDonald's parking lot.
Conyers, 44, spoke softly in federal court as she admitted taking bribes in connection with $1.2 billion Synagro Technologies Inc. contract the Detroit City Council awarded in 2007.
Conyers changed her position from opposing to supporting the deal to cast the deciding vote.
Conyers could be facing about three years in prison under her plea agreement. Her attorney, Steve Fishman, believes federal sentencing guidelines of 30-37 months apply.
Federal prosecutors believe she would get the full five years under sentencing guidelines.
Conyers' husband is John Conyers, a Detroit Democrat who chairs the House Judiciary Committee in Congress. He has no role in the case.

To what party does Ms Conyers belong? Well, if she had been a Republican, the article would have begun: "Prosecutors have charged Detroit City Council member Republican Monica Conyers..." The lack of any party identification tells us that she is a Democrat. The MSM almost never identify Democrats as such when charged with corruption, adultery, or any other offense, just as they never identify any Democrat as "far-left" or "extremist" or any other term that they use regularly for Republicans. It's a miracle they even identify her husband as a Democrat, but of course he isn't charged with anything; had he been, his affiliation too would have been left a mystery.

#1. Funny and astute observation. But the addition of the parties ethnicity probably also plays a part. It seems that currently in America certain standard evaluations of the public wrongdoings of officials are forbidden to speak about without someone screaming racist. Detroit is one of the most corrupt cities in the States. Get rid of every last michigan public servant starting with the courts. Do the country a favor and start over.

I noticed that as well, but she'll be relected while sitting in jail as her constituency has a habit of doing. Ala marion Barry, Alcee hastings, James Sharp, etc.
