Kyiv, Ukraine - Jews Protest Against Plans to Name Street after Petliura |
|
Kyiv, Ukraine - The Jewish Forum of Ukraine has protested against the Kyiv City Council's decision to rename Comintern Street to Symon Petliura Street.
"The Jewish Forum of Ukraine believes that the names of historically controversial personalities should not be given to streets and cities, and it is better to return to them their original geographical and historical names, and what counts more, that these names be far from politics," Jewish Forum of Ukraine Director Arkadiy Monastyrsky said today.
Monastyrsky said he had addressed Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky to veto the Kyiv City Council decision.
It is believed that Petliura's troops are responsible for particularly cruel Jewish pogroms in Ukraine in 1918-1919. After the so-called Ukrainian Directory led by Petliura was crushed by Red Army in late 1919, Petliura fled to Warsaw. From the end of 1924, Petliura lived in Paris, where Jewish anarchist Sholom Schwartzbard assassinated him on May 25, 1926, saying that, in doing so, he avenged the murder of his relatives, including parents, during the pogroms.
The investigation into Peliura's assassination lasted 16 months, after which a jury at a French court acquitted Schwartzbard.

"Particularly cruel Jewish pogroms" is quite an understatment. This was a genocide wih the goal to kill all Jews in Ukraine. The exact number or victims is unknown but it is agreed it was more than 100.000. Compare this to the the famous Kishinev pogrom of 1903 with 49 murdered.
The Ukrainians, with at least 3 genocide attempts against the Jews, are among the leading amaleikim in history.
Leader of another genocide attempt, Bogdan Chmelnitzky, is considered a national hero and there are streets, squares and even a town named after him. You can find his portrait on Ukrainian money.

What nonsense! There is zero evidence that Petliura was responsible for attacks against jews. He actually promoted jews into his government and was quite sympathetic to them. This canard about him initiating pogroms etc. is nothing more
than evil jewish propaganda. It's to bad that jewish hisorians cannot find it within themselves to be honest and objective in their historical pursuits. If anyone deserves a street named after him....it's Symon Petliura. Just another great man being slimed
by vested jewish interests.
If it was so bad living in Ukraine for the jews....why have they always flocked to that country? Easy one! They were and do feel very comfortable there....and they thrive.
The wealthiest people in Ukraine are all jews living very well.
So my dear compatriots....start giving credit where credit is due.....and drop your fabricated accusations of 'pogroms' against every national Ukrainian hero!

One of the founders and key ideologists of Zionism, the distinguished journalist and civic and political leader Vladimir (Ze’ev) Zhabotinsky, had a deep and abiding respect for Petliura. Shortly after Petliura was assassinated in Paris, on the fortieth day after his death—4 July 1926—Zhabotinsky wrote an article that was published in the New York newspaper, _The Jewish Morning Journal_. It states in part:
"It is a fact that neither Petliura nor Vynnychenko, nor any other outstanding member of the [Ukrainian] government was a pogrom-maker. I grew up with them and together we carried on the fight against anti-Semitism; no Zionist from Southern Russia, myself included, will ever be convinced that people of that type could be described as anti-Semites." (Cited in Elie Dobrovski, _L'Affaire Petlura-Schwarzbard_, Union Federative Socialiste, Champigny, Seine).
In his book published in Berlin in 1923 the Jewish historian E. Tscherikower writes: "...Ukraine was the territory where the pogroms began. The participants in the pogroms were not Ukrainians by origin, or at least only a few of them were; in general they were Russian soldiers...disorganized Bolshevik military units...[who] were brought in by a power foreign to [Ukraine]--Red Guards and sailors, who came from the North..." Further, he notes that the bloody pogrom that took place in the Ukrainian city of Novhorod-Siversk on 6 April 1918 was perpetrated by "the rearguard of the Soviet forces."
Solomon Goldelman, a well-known participant in the events of that time, who later became a professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, wrote in his Ukrainian-language book on the history of Ukrainian-Jewish relations during the Russian Revolution (Vienna, 1921) that the pogroms were the "provocative work of Russian officers."
In 1918 the Jewish writer M. Brener published a Yiddish-language article entitled "The Pogrom Insinuations," which appeared in the Yiddish newspaper _Naye Tsayt_ . The author maintained that the guilt leveled against the Ukrainians for the pogroms was a dishonest Bolshevik insinuation spread "in order to implant fear of the Ukrainians among the Jews...But the Ukrainian Rada [government], the Ukrainian revolutionary democracy, and its organs, are innocent."
At a scholarly conference held on 24-27 June 2009 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the contemporary Ukrainian poet and translator Moses Fishbein (Kyiv) presented a paper entitled "The Jewish Card in Russian Special Operations against Ukraine." In it he traces the use of this "Jewish card" from tsarist times to the Soviet era and the post-Soviet era.
My advice to Jewish commentators who mindlessly parrot tsarist Russian and Soviet communist lies and propanda is to open the history books and do not be dupes.

In the concentration camp the most brutal acts the Ukrainian performed with joy. Chemielnitzki and Petljura are the Ukrainian heroes and the Nazis found willing and eager helpers in the Ukrainians. Kiev, Lvov were the hot spots of Ukrainian murder and brutality. These area should have had a cherem as Don Abravanel issued against Spain. Unfortunately Jews by choice or not having a choice are still living in the Ukrainia and it is a cursed place and the Ukrainians should be cursed by any civilized person

The above is an anti-Semitic canard. It looks like the work of Israel Shahak; I guess Norman Cantor is of that same miserable self hating ilk.

Ukrainians killed Jews before Hitler under Chmielnitzki, in 1918 it was Petljura, during WWI the cossacks raped and burned Jews and during WWII they shmashed the heads of little Jewish children against the cement, in Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka and persecuted Jews wherever they found. The partisans hit them back but all in all the Ukrainians are a miserable race

What a load of nonsense. Jabotinsky never apologised for having dealt with Petliura, but he never had any illusions about what sort of person he was. On the contrary, he defended himself by saying that to defend Jewish lives he would even ally himself with the Devil, anticipating Churchill's famous comment that if Hitler were to invade Hell, "I would at least make a favourable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons."

Chemelienetsky murdered tens of thousands of Jews in the massacres of tach vi tot. There is not a town in Ukraine that does not have a Chmielnicki street or a Chmielnicki square. There is a province Chmielnicki with a capitol Chmielnicki. Chmielnicki was a good Ukranian, he murdered jews and that's why he is so loved. Yshv"z

Beside being tainted with anti-Jewish prejudice, you have the facts wrong! Petliura is faulted for sitting by tacitly while pogroms (murdering of innocent Jewish men women and children) were going under his command. I know your answer to that. Please keep it to yourself. I've already read ALL the nazi-symp. websites and your canards.....!!!
