Warsaw, Poland - A synagogue in the southwestern Polish city of Wroclaw was desecrated by unknown people who painted a swastika, the SS symbol as well as the inscription “Jude Raus” (Jews out).

The incident at The White Stork Synagogue ('Synagoga Pod Bialym Bocianem') was reported to the local police.

Similar graffiti were also found at a nearby Jewish Information Center which had already been targeted earlier this year by people who painted the words “Free Palestine” in English on the house.

Cleaning the graffiti will cost the Wroclaw municipality about $2080 dollars.

Anti-Semitic inscription in Polish was also found on the entrance sign of the Gdansk-Chelm Jewish cemetery. The inscription translates to "Jews to the oven, for this is your place".

The Chelm cemetery is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Central Europe, dating back to 1694. It was recently renovated.

There's no hope for poland! On all levels and form all angles they're saturated with anti-Semitism! It's even much worse than in Germany, where large segments of the population genuinely feel ashamed of their past misdeeds. And the government is making an effort to eradicate the influence of the nazi past!!!

I knew a sweet lady whose parents put her in the cold oven in her house because they looked out of the window and saw a bunch of drunk Poles coming to their farmhouse. The girl watched through the slits in the oven door, while they killed her parents.
Guess what my dear brothers and sisters?
This happened two months AFTER the war was over.

My mother a"h was an Auschwitz survivor and she told me that the Poles were always far worse than the Germans. Poland today is primarily a third-world country so I'm not surprised that religious bigotry and idiocy run rampant there.

I'd rather have a recovering drug addict on work-release clean my home than have a Polack do it.

Uh...oh...I see there is no hope for you. A couple of incidents - no worse than those that happen elsewhere and you produce the usual nonsense. Only the real life goes on elsewhere and while you invade the message boards, the Israeli government does all it can to please the Poles so that they buy Israeli weapons. Last time Ehud Barack even sung Polish folkloric songs to put the Polish delegation in good mood (it was described in an article by the former Israeli ambassador in Poland - he's a wonderful guy by the way - always writes extremely friendly and pro-Polish articles in the Polish press).
As for the cleaning ladies, you should be glad they are there. I knew a couple who said that they had to work for some Jewish households where cleanliness left so much "to be desired" that except some hard-pressed Filipinos and Poles no one would take such a work.

Of all the readers I think I am the most qualified to speak about what goes on in Poland today especially after reading the above comments. I do not disagree that there is anti-Semitism in Poland today one just has to lidten to the radio station called Radio Maria for an almost daily dose of hate. There is also the random acts of vandalism. But I have to say on my many trips to Poland I always wear my yalmulka and not a hat and I have never been accousted. Yes three times people have shouted remarks at me and I shouted back. In France the local Jews were told to be careful and not to wear yarmulkas or stars to hide their Jewishness so I think it is worse there. In NY just last week there was an incident at the Bilystok shul on the Lower East Side and there is not a month that goes by that there isn't someting in the news about anti-Semitism in America. The government of Poland has been a major supporter of Israel at the UN in the past 20 years since the fall of Communism and this week there are numerous events in Honor of Jewish culture inWarsaw and Krakow where there is a festival at which 20,000 people are expected to atend the final concert on Motzei Shabbat. Yes it was terrible, it is not yet good but it is better then in other places and getting better all the time in Poland. The best way to make things better there isthrough education and that is goning on at every level in Poland today. The University of Kopernicus in Tourin is openng a chir of Judaic studies in the fall semester and there are numerous programs all over Poland. So it is a lot better there in let us say Lithuania or even Germany where the Neo Nazis are on the rise unchecked.
