Betar Illit, Israel - A 12-year old Beitar child who was on a tour to the Golan Heights, slipped into a brook and drowned.

Ariel Voknin, an 18 year old from Kiryat Shemoneh who was on the same tour, related that he and another 3 individuals tried to save the child. "We immediately jumped into the water and began to comb the area until we found the child. We gave him over to the Magen David Adom team and the rescue unit that shortly arrived."

MDA and Golan Rescue unit paramedics tried to resuscitate the child but failed in their attempts. After a doctor pronounced him dead, the rescue units evacuated the body from the area.

Galil police spokesman Superintendent Eren Shaked issued a statement, "The police investigation shows that a group of tourists came to tour around the Shnir brook. At a certain point, apparently one of the children fell into the water. The police are taking testimony from the child's friends to try and understand how he fell into the brook."

Baruch dayan ha'emes.
This morning ,while waiting with my son by the bus stop in Beitar, I saw the boys from the school with their backpacks, all excited about their trip. Just to think how their carefree, happy lives, were changed in minutes....
We should all take this as a lesson on how fragile our existance is, and how we have to constantly prepare ourselves for our day of death.
May Hashem comfort the family, the friends and the staff of the cheder, and may we be zoche to know only joy and happiness, and merit the coming of mashiach speedily in our days.
