How kind of you to pour salt on the wounds. Maybe just say "refuah Shelaima, we will daven for him"? Do you REALLY think parents can keep an eye on their child every minute of every 24 hours? We all try to supervise our children, but it's ultimately up to the Reboino Shel Olam to really protect them from harm. May we all have a safe and healthy summer.

There are steps one can take to dramatically lower the chances of a future tragedy. A high fence with a locked gate is one such step. There are now pool covers that so sturdy that they can bear the weight of a full grown man without collapsing.

Looks like you're all ready to kill the parents.
Hey! Have you checked already? Do you know where your children are? Maybe it was one of yours, Achzor.

I don't believe #2 or anyone is looking to blame the parents or anyone else. However, the fact is that parents must do everything they can to keep their kids safe & that includes adequate locks on pool gates & on house doors & knowing where their kids are. If they go out to play (especially at this young age) a responsible adult or much older child should be in charge.

How many times have we all thought at home, where it's relatively safe, "Where is Chaim? It's very quiet?" Most of the time all is well, but sometimes "Chaim" is painting the walls or cutting Rivkie's hair.

In other words, children get up to mischief. We must be vigilant. Summer has barely begun & already there have been 2 accidents, one fatal & the other, obviously very serious.

PLEASE WATCH YOUR KIDS! Don't leave them alone. It IS possible, even in a bungalow colony, to make sure kids are properly supervised 24/7. Just ask another mother to watch your kid if you have to go back to the bungalow for a moment.

Sadly, I have seen people take more care over locking their cars than watching where their kids go & what they do. It's just common sense to be extra careful during the summer in a different environment.

He should please have a refuah shlaima. The word "breicha" for pool is similar to the word bracha-the boy needs our brochos and for his refuah, we should focus positively on blessing people, instead of trying to blame them, and also have more kavanah when saying brochos to Hashem.

Hashem ordained it in such a manner that for two seconds the parents' focus was not on their child, and in those two seconds, the child plunged into the pool.

Yes, despite it all, we do have an obligation to be vigilant with our children, even 24/7, but when an oson happens, we should not put blame on any single individual, because that is Loshon Horah, Richilus, etc.

The issue is not this particular family, nor WHY this tragedy happened (Hashem has His plans and reasons), but rather HOW such an accident may have happened, and hence how to LOWER the chances, b'derech ha'teva, of a similar accident happening to another child in the future. I have a close relative who refused to install a pool in their home for just such a reason. For those who have pools in their own home, using a gated, locked fence and a sturdy pool cover--when the pool is not in use--seems worthwhile. As a former lifeguard, I can tell you that vigilance is worthwhile. Children need to be supervised under such conditions, either by an older child, eg a teen, or by a parent. A young child can and will head for the pool if left unsupervised, even for seconds.

Let's give credit where it is due: HATZOLOH OF ROCKLAND County, and their amazing Paramedic system! One of the top paramedics (Dovid Kirshenbaum, RH93) was there in just one minute, and with his amazing skills and experience, managed to resuscitate this dying child! They also had amazing courage to transport this child within minutes of being puled from the water, to Westchester MC, verses the local community hospitals; All of THIS made the REAL difference between a dead child c"v, and a story of survival iy"h.

PLEASE Let's remember to appreciate and support this vital org. Thank their members and not take them for granted! THIS is the best example why Hatzoloh (BLS AND ALS) is needed!!

Actually what causes this kind of thing to happen is not supervising children properly. A ten year old does not need to be supervised 24/7 but a two year old ABSOLUTELY does. I cannot tell you how many times I have passed by houses in Monsey and seen pre-upshernish children outside all alone. It makes me SICK the way some parents neglect the safety of their children and think "Hashem will watch them." You have to do your part. WATCH YOUR BABIES! LOCK YOUR POOLS! USE CAR SEATS AND SEATBELTS! Start taking some responsibility for your actions as parents and protectors of your children. Let this tragedy be a wake up call please so that it does not happen again!!

I agree that you have to watch your children but even when you're as vigilant as can be things can still happen. Hashem up there is working the world not we. Stop bashing the parents and start working on your emunah that Hashem is the one that runs the world not we.

I was a lifeguard in a camp and once this mother brought in her 2 year old son and instead of staying with him at the steps she was yentaning with mothers in the water at a depth of around 2 1/2 - 3 feet. Her son of course also wanted to go and decided to go farther than the mother in deeper water. We as lifeguards ran after the child and when the mother was warned to watch her child - as he wasn't the only one in the pool, and because of his age, her response was "Let him learn a lesson". We told the mother "not on our watch".

In Florida, since most pools are on the back patio - the doors leading out to the pool have an alarm that sounds when the door is opened and shrieks if it remains open.

I do know that there are alarms that are put into the pool on the side that ring if someone enters or falls into the water. (Obviously if the pool is in use you can disarm it, however, if you're just lounging around it's good to have it activated so if C"V someone does fall in, or decide to take a swim you're notified.)
Saw it on some sites selling safety stuff.
