Gafni, who serves as chairman of the Knesset’s Finance Committee, proposed a bill allotting additional funds to private schools belonging to United Torah Judaism and Shas. The funds will be extracted from the local authorities, according to the bill.

The new bill also awards the ultra-Orthodox institutions funding for 100% of school hours, whereas they currently receive funding for only 75%. Gafni claims the bill reinstates the status quo from a number of years ago.

Gafni’s bill also requires local authorities to set aside the same number of buildings used by regular schools to be used as ultra-Orthodox schools.

The MK claims the bill must be passed by the Knesset before its summer recess, otherwise ultra-Orthodox schools will not be able to open next year.

But opposition members are already up at arms to fight it, with MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) threatening a petition to the High Court of Justice if the bill is approved.

Tirosh is vehemently opposed to the legislation, which she says would provide preferential funding to non-state haredi schools run by United Torah Judaism and Shas while disenfranchising other recognized independent school tracks, such as the democratic schools.

The bill would require local governments to provide 100 percent subsidies for the haredi school systems, despite the fact that they do not teach courses required for government-sponsored schools.

“My problem with this bill is that only haredi schools would get the funding,” explained Tirosh. “This is not equal, that now within the track of recognized non-governmental schools, there would now be a sub-track of schools that receive local government funds and a sub-track of those that do not.”

“The coalition is trying to pass this bill in an attempt to satisfy Gafni, who is the head of the Finance Committee, because they need him to pass their budget as soon as possible,” she said.

This is Blood Money, being give to Yeshivos on the “condition” (verbal, unwritten agreement) that they remain silent on giving back land to the Arabs which results in Jewish Blood Shed, literally.

You can’t build Yeshivos on the foundation of Jewish Blood Shed (which is equivalent to Murder so that one can build a Yeshiva with Money obtained at the expense of Jewish Lives, lost, by giving away land to the Arabs) Rachmana Litzlan.

Children who grow out of such schools don’t grow up to respect Torah Values, rather the education engraved in these Children, teaches them, that it’s OK to sacrifice Jewish Lives, just so that his Rosh Yeshivah will have more money for their school.

“otherwise ultra-Orthodox schools will not be able to open next year” rather then depending on this malchut horishoh, DONT OPEN THE SCHOOLS! If satmar & 100 other schools can survive without taking a penny from these kofrim, so can you.

Maybe they could amend the bill to require the UTJ schools to teach the bochurim midos and derech eretz so we don’t have to see pictures showing the types of behavior at the “parking lot protests” over the past few weeks. In EY, it is appropriate that the government provide equal funding for secular schools and yeshivot, but if you take the government money, there should be some responsibility to teach respect for the laws of the medinah (even if you don’t agree with them).

When will the day come that the Chareidim use their political capital to demand that all schools should teach some minimal Jewish studies and Jewish history so that we don’t have the horrendous situation of today where thousands upon thousands of Yidden don’t even know what Yom kippur is, don’t know what tefilin is, don’t know who Rabbi Akviah was.

With all their political muscle they have the power to insist on this minimal Jewish studies. Just as it’s the law to teach science and history it should be the law to teach Jewish children some Jewish law and some Jewish history.
