New Square, NY - Community Proposes Poultry Plant on Route 45 |

New Square Deputy Mayor Israel Spitzer said the proposed facility would enable a business already in the village to expand - keeping numerous jobs in Rockland.
"The applicant is planning to build a better type of plant which is going to be fully automated and up to code with all types of new efficiencies," he said.
The proposed 50,730-square-foot facility would be built in a new industrial park located at the intersection of Route 45, across from Rovitz Place, according to documents.
Neighbors who live in New Hempstead, across the street from the vacant piece of land where the plant is proposed, are worried about odors and other forms of pollution from the slaughterhouse.
New Square had planned to hold a public hearing on the plan tonight. But Spitzer said this afternoon that the applicant requested that the meeting be rescheduled.
"They weren't ready to go ahead tonight," he said.
The meeting will likely be rescheduled for August, he said.

i live in kiryas joel. uch!!!!!!!!!! is what i got to say, how discusting it is, poor new squrers, poor neighbors they should really fight it to the last drop. here is what we go thru, fly,s like crazy day and night ,stinky smells from what not, and intrersting thing happend here in kiryas joel ,ppl were the first here in upstate to get the flu, and its still on going, ppl here are geting sicker by the day. if ppl really wanted to do a mitzvah the would stop buying kj chikens . that way may babe,s will be able to skipgoing to the doctor evrey week. ohh and the fly,,es there end less . our back yards are flooded with their sewer over load. if any body dose not belive what i am writing please come and check for your self oooooff sorry as i am writing this some ugly wasp is over my head . please some one HELP us!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. I live there as well and it smells terrible and its disgusting.

the problem it is in new square, only borders new Hempstead,the entrance they will leave on rt 45, so the ones most effected are the new hempstead residents

It is Legal to have a doctor's office in New Hempstead. It does not look the decision is up to the Village of New Hempstead. It is on the border and I think St. Lawrence gets to choose.

Before all the usual suspects start screaming gevalt and that the neighbors are a bunch of antisemitim, think about the question of whether you would want have a shchlacthois built across from your home. This has nothing to do with the Bobover and the bochurim practicing their shechita skills. This is a simple question of quality of life and the reasonable expectations of the neighbors, both jewish or otherwise. I think most frumme yidden would rather become vegetarians than have a schlacthois as their neighbor.

I wonder which kj you're living in, because the one i love here in Monroe NY is not the least bit like your explanation you got urself. I guess you're one of those who have taanis on everything and anything anyway, so u might as well throw in some garbage for the poultry plant were all blessing. No wasps when i look for them......

We have industrially zoned areas that are far from residential areas. The new Borough President, Ruben Diaz, Jr. (son of the State Senator) is a great friend to the Jewish community. Please consider the Bronx for all industrial development such as this.

Why would you want to put a smelly shacht hois into such a crowded city when there is so much more open space in Monsey. There is plenty of room in KJ itself for such a facility and clearly the people there would appreciate it more than those who live near yankee stadium or motts point.

I live in kj next to the slaughterhouse I'm not saying it dosent stink but they are putting in Millions of dollars to fix it and if you live in KJ you should know it and I don't know what you are writing about the stinky sewer that's the one they are working on I won't change and move to monsey or brooklyn and I won't change where I live even if I pay twice the amount that I paid on the other side of the shtetel and Yes I would love to go and check out where you live just to see if its worse then by me don't overdo it and you have a choice to move or to the other side of the shtetel or to a different neighberhood

as a RN i understand the issue here, very well,i think your right, i will be boycotting them ,and will ask my freinds and family to do the same, WOW what a shame.
