Minnesota - The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled today that Democrat Al Franken won the U.S. Senate election and said he was entitled to an election certificate that would lead to him being seated in the Senate.

"Affirmed," wrote the Supreme Court, unanimously rejecting Republican Norm Coleman's claims that inconsistent practices by local elections officials and wrong decisions by a lower court had denied him victory.

"Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled [under Minnesota law] to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota," the court wrote.

In upholding a lower court ruling in April, the justices said Coleman had "not shown that the trial court's findings of fact are clearly erroneous or that the court committed an error of law or abused its discretion."

This is a great outcome and provides the Democrats with a (60 vote) veto proof majority in the Senate. It will make it a lot easier to move forward with critical legislation such as global warming and health care reform without having to worry about obstructionist tactics by the Republicans and make them more willing to compromise since they can no longer filibuster every bill the way they have been doing.

Great, now we have a professional comedian elected as a senator. Might as well, since most of the other senators are amature jokers themselves. Sad testament to the political system in the US.

How is it fraud? he won fair in square. he won every recount, he won every appeal.
This is more clear clut and straight forward than gore v bush in 2000. (which the hhypocrites in the GOP flip flopped on in this case, to drag it out as long as possible). this charade has gone on long enough, it is time for Minesota to have a representative in the US senate and time for Al Franken to take his rightful seat and for norm coleman to stop being a sore loser and go back to his pathetic job at the republican jewish committee.

You know, it's not a "fraud" every time your guy doesn't win. The close election triggered an AUTOMATIC recount. Franken won. Every court that has looked at the thing has found no irregularities. Better luck next time.

The only fraud that has been perpetrated is by coleman people who dragged this out for months, denied Minnesota a Senator and cost the taxpayers millions of dollars in litigation costs.

It's a fraud because if you are familiar with the arbitrary rulings of which votes could
be recounted than you will have to admit it,
Democrat appointed judges have no integrity they are activist judges, one of them
will soon be appointed to Supreme Court unfortunately.

(happened) or a stripper to congress (happened) or arnold schwatzenmegger another movie actor elected california governor? get over it.

I think you mean filibuster-proof, not veto-proof. To override a veto, you need 2/3 (67 votes).

One of the Justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court is in fact a former football player, Alan Page. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He earned a law degree while playing with the Minnesota Vikings, and after retiring from football had a successful career as an attorney, first in private law practice and then in the office of the Minnesota Attorney General. He has been a member of the Minnesota Supreme Court since the early 1990s and has served there with distinction.

Most of the judges were appointed by Pawlenty, a Republican. Apparently you're the one without integrity. You don't even find out the facts.

Sorry #8. Can you explain why Coleman was ahead by the original count and by each recount Franken got more and more votes. How did that happen? SOmething is fishy.

They simply got more accurate as they counted and each recount made the numbers more precise.

Global warming? I shoveled more than 60 inches of global warming this past winter.
Critical legislation like health care reform? You wan think about people consider the following: If we undertake a government financed health care approach, where are all the sick people in Canada, that has a Government financed health care system, going to go when they need immediate care?

I also like your terminology "obstructionist tactics" Where I come from, not ordering something that you can't afford is considered fisacal responsibility.

What has global warning to do with Hashem created the world, do you argue the science then say so and don’t mix in God, or do you mean to say that Hashem will protect the world regardless what we do to the environment, well according to your warped logic, why worry about Iran getting nuclear weapons, because people could still destroy this world, idiot.

Sounds like he won fair and square....

This is a TERRIBLE outcome and provides the Democrats with a (60 vote) veto-proof majority in the Senate. It will make it a lot easier to move forward with HORRIBLY DESTRUCTIVE legislation such as global warming and health care DESTRUCTION without giving the sane side of the Senate the ability to prevent these disasters from ruining our country. I can think of few things worse than having a President and both Congressional houses controlled by the same party, especially Liberals. When Conservatives are in charge, it is still not good for them to have CONTROL, but they do less, and damage less. By the very definition of "Liberalism" they are always making dramatic changes. This tendency to make changes needs to have a counter force to balance and prevent abuse.
Change is sometimes good and needed. But to have one party able to force changes without the opposition being able to balance it, is DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS.

people dont understand. its sad and sick that pollution and natural resources became a tool of the radical right that has somehow made caring about the einvironment somehow as "anti religous". there is nothing frum about abusing the planet, polluting the earth and not giving a darn. its just a lazy abusive cop-out that never existed untilsomeone one the right decided to politicize it because al gore took on the cause.
until then, heimishe yidden actually cared about littering, pollution, recycling, etc.
Now thanks to their second g-d, the oyzvarf mamzer rush limbaugh, it has somehow become a staple issue of ridicule.
Caring about hashem's briah and kavod a habriyos and ensuring a safe non toxic earth for your eneklach is just about one of the most jewish things you can do.
