Kishinev, Moldova - Elderly Rabbi and His Students Attacked While Sleeping in Camp |
|
Kishinev, Moldova - Rabbi Israel Livshits, head of the Jewish community at the cultural and religious center in Chisinau, has been attacked and robbed.
"I have no doubts that the attack was anti-Semitic," he said on local TV.
The attack occurred in Panasesti where Livshitz was camping and angling with his pupils.
"A group of eight or nine local young men aged 16 to 20 treacherously attacked the sleeping campers in the early hours of the morning, beat them up and took away all the money the rabbi had for food and the way home (about 300 euro)."
According to a federation spokesman, the youngsters "shook the rabbi, tore at his beard and shouted out anti-Semitic insults in the presence of his pupils."
Criminal proceedings were launched and some of the attackers were detained, the federation said.

Do you think for a second the Rabbi thought this was a makom seconoh? He wanted to give his kids a good time. What's wrong with that?
My son spent Pesach in a camp in the Ukraine for kids whose home situations are a nightmare. He just went back for the summer. The stories he told us are harrowing, & if not for him & his fellow counselors & staff, these boys wouldn't have any Jewish life at all. Maybe this is what Rabbi Livshitz is trying to do.

Is there no end to your naivete? The Rabbi lives there and the police will do absolutely nothing because they couldn't care less about some Jews being robbed and beaten. I am surprised it doesn't happen more often than that.

In my opinion Rav Israel Livshits is a great hero. He is showing the youth of Moldova that they are Yidden, beloved of HKBH, and hated by the Nachrim. Hopefully, he will save them and they will move to Eretz Yisrael and be frum Yidden and have a future outside that makom of sinah and maves.

The Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe (passed away 1950) lived in Communist Russia. Do you think he told his Chassidim to give up on Yiddishkeit in Russia because it’s dangerous to be frum in Communist Russia? No. He sent teachers and melamdim and Rabbis to reopen Chadorim and mikvaos as soon as the one before was arrested never to be seen again. My Great Grand-father’s brother was one of the hundreds of Chassidim who was taken by the communists and killed, because he was trying to keep Yiddishkeit alive in the gehenom of Communist Russia.
Just because a place is dangerous does that mean we abandon the millions or thousands of Yidden who live there?
And today the danger is nowhere NEAR the level it was under Stalin Ym”sh. So kal v’chomer we don’t abandon the Yidden who live there.
