New York, NY - Bloomberg Defends Campaign Spending: 'I Made Every Dime That I Have' |

"I made every dime that I have," Bloomberg told the Working Families Party candidate forum, sparking scattered hisses from the crowd of about 250.
"I've used my money only to talk about what I would do and what I have done. There's nothing wrong with that as far as I can see," said Bloomberg, who may spend more than $100 million on his campaign. "You can't buy an election. The public's much too smart for that. You can use it to get a message out."
Controller William Thompson and Queens Councilman Tony Avella, two Democrats vying to challenge him in November, both said Bloomberg should have raised income taxes on the wealthy rather than hike the sales tax by a half-point to balance the budget - and said Bloomberg's statement that "we love the rich" was staggeringly out of touch.
Avella launched a blistering attack on Bloomberg's record and policies, saying he allowed large developers to run roughshod over neighborhoods while ignoring the plight of the poor.
"Right now, it has nothing to do with you and I, and it is all about money," Avella said. "Money should not be moving the system. It should be the people of the city."
The party has yet to endorse a candidate for mayor.

Make 311, raise watrer taxes umpteen times, tickets, tickets , tickets, if you look for him on the weekend, where is he?? What country is he in? To #6 You may hope he spends $200m so that the city's economy get's a good boost, but the people who need the few dollars, old people, who believe it or not live from hand to mouth on a few dollars will see nothing of his millions. Some of these live from meal to meal are elderly, and nebich starving!

Bloomberg spends...his spending helps employment....his spanding grows businesses.....employees and businesses pay taxes.....taxes help infrastructure and programs.....giving people handouts is never ending and is limited in its long term effect

This is a CAPITALIST country! It seems many people here believe in socialism or communism but for the rest of us, it's his money. Again HIS money period. He may do whatever he likes with it. It is absurd to even think he should give it to the city. At the same time as he is running for public office, the public has the right and the power not to elect him, but stop the whining.
