Los Angeles, CA - Police: Nearly One Million Fans To Flood Streets To Jackson's Memorial Service |
|
Only 11,000 tickets will be given out for the Tuesday service at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. Another 6,500 tickets will be given away for the Nokia Theater overflow section next door.
City officials are preparing for massive crowds. Assistant Police Chief Earl Paysinger says anywhere from a quarter-million to 700,000 people may try to reach the arena, even though a wide area around Staples Center will be sealed off to those without tickets.
No details were given about the actual memorial events, which come as the nation's second-largest city struggles with a $530 million budget deficit. City Councilwoman Jan Perry said the cost of police protection for "extraordinary" events like the memorial is built into the Police Department's budget, but she still solicited help for "incremental costs."

A lot of people with too much time on their hands. Enough already with Jackson - he was not the genius the publicists made him out to be. James Brown and Jackie Wilson were the ones who invented what Jackson did - all he did was put the freak show makeup on it, sort of like what Kiss is to the Rolling Stones.

If there's such demand, why do the memorial in a venue that only seats 11,000? They should have arranged to use the Los Angeles Coliseum (90,000 seats).

I posted out of painful emotions that we care to discuss it on a frum blog. Thre weren't any earth shattering details to discuss. It is still sad that it takes time of day. How many yiddisha kinderlich got lost due to his stuff only Hashem knows. It was no great loss for Klall Yisroel. We need real Erlicha music and real people to sing them people with Yiras Shamayim and erlichkeit.
