The religious ruling was issued after more swine flu cases were registered in the West Bank.
In his fatwa, Chief Justice Taysseer al-Tamimi ordered religious courts in the Palestinian territories not to complete wedding procedures, unless couples bring a document from the Health Ministry proving they are not infected with the flue virus.
Al-Tamimi said the fatwa aims at curbing the spread of the virus in the West Bank.
The Health Ministry said that two new cases were discovered, raising the number of H1N1 cases in the Palestinian territories to 69. No deaths have been reported.

This is a smart policy and maybe the rabbonim in EY should consider a similiar requirement for kedushin if the swine flu gets worse.

are they crazy!? they are worried about the swine flu virus, but to blow themselves up in public places and to do other crimes among their own people is not an issue!? someone sure got their priorities messed up! maybe this way they won't marry one hundred wives. i guess every issue has a silver lining.

I suspect the mullahs would agree that everyone has their own priorities; if you read VIN more than a few hours you will see posters (myself included) kvetching about some new chumrah imposed by some rav which appears to be totally arcane and without any relevance to real world problems facing yiddin
