Paris, France - Four members of the militan Jewish Defense League were arrested today over an attack on a Paris bookstore run by pro-Palestinian activists.

The four, ages 16 to 26, were arrested in Paris and its suburbs on suspicion of trashing the store.

Masked vandals burst into the shop, armed with sticks and bottles of oil early Friday afternoon, smashing the computers and cash till, pulling books off the shelves and emptying bottles of oil on the floor.

Known for its support for the Palestinian cause, the bookstore in the northwestern 17th district of Paris has been attacked several times.

Following the incident, the MRAP anti-racism group repeated a call for a French ban on the Jewish Defense League, which was set up by a radical U.S. rabbi in 1968 to protect Jews from anti-Semitism.

France is home to Europe’s largest Muslim community, estimated at 5 million, and its largest Jewish population, about 600,000.

any effort by any Jew to show that they can also cause a bit of damage is fine by me.. the chilul Hashem is what is going on here by people denigrating the mesiras nefesh of the JDL - who saved a lot of Jewish people's lives BECAUSE they caused the ruckus... all of you should leave it to Hashem to judge

I hope those that attacked the charedim will at least equally attack these hooligans.
Actually, this is much worse, as it will cause tremendous backlash against Jews everywhere. Real brave to pillage an empty store and then place all of us in danger. What a bunch of sickos!

No one seems to realize that the books sold there were probably full of hate libel & incitement against jews, and this may well have been an act of well intended self defense.
JMO
I would think twice B4 naming them, besides why are they guilty without trial.

Are you crazy? If this Jewish Defense Ligue really did this, there is nothing to justify it. It is illegal, it is damaging of property, you do not do it, let alone the retaliation french jews could expect.

Well, I do not adocate violence an I certainly do not support Chillul HaShem. HOWEVER, I am fed up with being the world's punching bag, and I am furious at those rabidly mutant single-cell life forms that inexplicably descned from Avraham avinu! frankly, it's about time we gave them a taste of their own medicine. The world hates us and nothing we do to avoid that will change it. They consider out view of others as weakness. Their job is to get t paradise; our job is to help arrange a meeting!

I'm not a kachnik, but I do believe if r' meir kahana was alive things would be different. Jews are not fighters by nature but when jews had to defend themselves they stood up to the challange. In this case its jews stepping up to the plate. Just like an oived hashem has many ways to choose from, so do they. If you don't agree with them and have a better way to defend jews then by all means tell me but until then don't bash the few that have the guts to stand up.

Why not? What is this, a game?

France is a country where it is illegal to deny the Holocaust; but apparently it's legal to spread this filth. Displaying the symbols and literature of a long-dead enemy of the Jews can land you in prison, but it's perfectly fine to display the symbols and literature of that enemy's allies who are still around trying to finish the job. Does that make sense? I think both should be legal, but I would admire anyone who trashed a Nazi shop, and I have the same admiration for these people.

France is also the country where just a few months ago dozens of antisemites invaded a supermarket and removed all Israeli products from the shelves, and made a video of the whole thing, while nobody interfered with them. Nobody interfered with them, and they were not arrested. How is this different? Why have these Jewish heroes been arrested and not that mob?

What planet are you living on? "Backlash"? What do you think has been happening in France until now? The Moslems have been peaceful and friendly, and now as a result of this unprovoked attack they will suddenly turn into antisemites? As if they need any kind of excuse for violence against Jews! On the contrary, until now they've thought there was no price to pay, and that they could get away with anything they liked. They could openly support terrorism and antisemitism, so long as they used the code-word "anti-zionism". Now they know they're not safe, it can only be hoped that at least some of them will think twice before their next attack.

Oh, and there is nothing holier than standing up for Jews and Jewish honour.

Who cares what the FBI says? When Jews are seen as helpless and easy victims who will never fight back, that is a chilul hashem. When our enemies see that there are consequences to hurting us, that it's not safe to hurt us, that is a kidush hashem.
