Haifa, Israel - The Education Ministry is considering closing down the Belz Yeshiva in Haifa after the kitchen failed two health inspections.
The first inspection was ordered after a number of students suffered food poisoning on Shabat.
A number of the sanitary shortcomings have been corrected, but that might not be enough for the Education Ministry to keep the kitchen open.
The heads of the Belz institutions have asked Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman to step in.

When I was a young kid I remember hearing the story about chelent, the story was told that in the old times in Belz, they never washed out the pot of chelent they just added and coked again and again, but, nobody got sick, I guess they need to go back to chelent cooking

I'm an ex-politician--there is a problem and then the frum politician should say it's ok. then the non-frum will say--"you see, all the frum politicians do is cover up for the frumies."
maybe they want litzman to fall on his sword for them. that's really what they want!
it's infuriating (as well as dishonest)

Lovely. As the students writhe in agony from their twisted guts, at least they'll know that great care was taken to ensure that the food that nearly killed them met the highest standards of kashrus. Nice going.

just like a kosher food establishment must have a hechsher to eat there it should have a hechsher that food is properly prepared there. if one of the yeshivas was closed down for a week because of food poisoning then maybe all the yeshivas will get the message that food that our kids eat must be prepared and handled properly .The heads of the Belz institutions have asked Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman to step in , this just putting food politics ahead of the safety of our kids.

Closing the yeshiva for as long as it takes to clean up the kitchen and get some competent professionals running the kitchen is definitely worth any interruption to the learning. You can't learn torah if you are sick. The responsibility for this bitul torah is on the shoulders of those the Belzer rebbe assigned responsibility for food management. The Beltzer rebbe should not seek "special treatment" from Rav Litzman. Otherwise, it will only reinforce the perception that Litzman was a hack appointed for political reasons and not for his "public health" credentials. The Belz, Ger, etc. are NOT entitled to any special treatment and unless it is shown that all the problems have been corrected and new procedures are put in place, it should be kept closed until they are confident the needed changes are implemented.

The government should intervene and overule the bureaucrats in the Education Ministry who probably are secular and don't understand the catasrophic implications of closing the Belz bes medrash and keeping the bochurim from learning for even one minute. They would rather not eat than to forego their shiiruim and lamdus.

Never heard of Ushmartem meod es nafsoseichem? It's written in the same Torah that talks about learning.

"Have you never heard of Ushmartem meod es nafsoseichem"
Yes. I have heard of it and the only way to be "shomer of one's neshama" is by davening and learning. Letting the government close shut down the yeshiva would be a real chilul hashem and pose substantial risk to all the neshamos who benefit from the torah study and davening. The bochurim can take their lunch breaks at some local fast food restaurant without interrupting their learning.

The bochurim from the U.S. and UK would be sent home until the facility is reopened. The ones from Australia, and Latin American would be relocated to other Belz facilities in eretz yisroel until everything is fiwxed to standards.

Read the article they failed a second inspection, which was a direct result of the bochurim getting sick, but this new violations, and you think it is alright to feed bochurim from a kitchen which has health violations as long as the are someone else bochurim not yours .

Send home??? why becoase there is a problem in the kitchen? they fixed most of it and yes they could do a better job, so they should fix it. but take the bochirim home? pay them a ticket? for what? is it a big deal to bring in outside food for a couple of days?second of all, the belzer yeshivos are seperete from each other, taking them in puting them in a other facilitiy is like taking bochrim from the Mir and puting them in Naizer....
