Tolls are set to rise by 10% at 3 a.m. Sunday on the nine crossings controlled by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
They include the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge - formerly the Triborough Bridge - the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Queens Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels.
The toll amounts vary by crossing, type of vehicle and whether a driver has an E-ZPass or other discount. Cash rates will be as high as $11 for passenger cars on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. That toll, now $10, is imposed in only one direction.

While its never good to have to pay more money to drive, the funds from these tolls are going to subsidize mass transit so its going to a good cause. Some portion of these funds also pay for bridge repair and maitainance which is long overdue and underfunded.

Because your "own gas" pollutes the air that me an my yinglach have to breathe. The mass transit takes hundreds of thousands of cars off the the streets of the city every day. At least the money is going to a good cause.

That may be true, but since (as the NY Daily News wrote yesterday) most mass transit service is to bring people to Manhattan, the tolls should be applied on the East River bridges and other Manhattan crossings, and lowered on any other inter-boro crossings, NOT raised.

Any cars using city streets contribute to pollution and global warming. Didn't you read yesterday's article in VIN about Al Gore's most recent warnings concerning greenhouse gas emissions and the threat to the world from rising temperatures??

Good! Raising tolls makes sure that everybody shares into the governments expense even those who are getting paid in cash. If they wouldn’t raise the tolls they would have had to raise my income tax, which is already approximately 25-30% of my wages. Higher state tolls and fees is a smart way to force those cheaters to share in raising revenue for the government.

There is no such a thing as global warming, and it's nothing but crock-science. NYC just had the coolest June on record!! The temperatures globally are slowly getting colder not rising. There is no evidence to support any of the green-house gas theories, and people are creating a false sense of urgency.

What do you care what the prices are if it's EZPass? I'd rather pay 4.57 a pop than 4.60, it adds up if you commute every day...you would go to the gas station that's 2.76 over 2.79, right?
And for some of the others posting here, PLEEEEAAASSSE stop with the politically correct shtus known as global warming, okay?
