New York City - Mayor Bloomberg has burned through $36.6 million in his campaign for a third term, a spending pace so torrid that one political analyst said yesterday there's little doubt he'll shatter the $100 million mark by Election Day.

At this time in 2005, the billionaire mayor had spent a comparatively measly $23 million in the race.

My take is , that he's going to win anyway- for better or worse - so why is he wasting all that money (I know for him its no big deal, but to think how we could help our schools, yeshivas and kollelim with this money, really sickens me. Mr Mayor you are not getting my vote: I live in NJ anyway.....

Is this called fair? This is not a democracy by having a rich person buying an election. There should be laws preventing this and let the people decide fairly who gets the mayoral post. He is manipulating voters indeed.

Its his money and he made it on his own; he has a right to spend it on whatever he wants. He also is a philanthropist that gives money to many causes including Jewish institutions.

To #6 You know that the finest way of giving charity is to give and for the person and /or institution not to know from whom the money comes. Anonymously! That is the greatest form of charity!! He has so much money that he wants to build up his ego and make sure we all know who he is giving it to! An ambulance here! He thinks BIG! If he gave $1,000. to a family that was starving or ready to lose their home it might help. I guess losing their homes is not important to the mayor! He would rather have Homelessness!!! What kind of a HUMAN BEING is he? If he is Human?
