Tiberias, Israel - Police divers found around on Sunday the body of a 15-year-old bather who drowned in the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), after the body washed ashore.

Divers and volunteers of the police searched throughout the night for the missing youth who decided to go swimming with friends late motzei shabbos at Tiberias’s separate beach, near Lido Beach, a place not manned with lifeguards.

His friends called for help after the teenager disappeared.

Police have identified 15-year-old Ephraim Nachman Gabbai, from Ramat Bet Shemesh, as the victim of Kinneret drowning.

**Update**

Gabai studied at a yeshiva in Safed, and was at a Tiberias beach with another student and two female friends.

One friend said she was near Gabai when he drowned.

"We came last night from Safed to Tiberias and entered the water. We decided to go in a little deeper. Suddenly Efraim shouted out to me - I thought he was joking, because his arms and legs were above the water. I grabbed his leg, but he went under. It all happened in a few seconds, but only after 15 minutes did I realize he had drowned. The search for him began a lot later."

Gabai's classmate said he "had a heart of gold. Always loved to help and never hurt anyone. We just wanted to have a bit of fun at the lake, who would have thought it would end like this?"

Asher Vaknin, a Tiberias resident who works at a nearby pub, said Gabai was swimming within the area marked as safe for swimming, along with quite a few other people.

"There were quite a few people swimming. Suddenly he shouted 'help!' and went under. I guess the undercurrent pulled him under."

Vaknin said the beach was only recently opened, and that signs there say swimming is only allowed between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M.

Moria Hatzav, a volunteer police diver, said swimming in the dark is dangerous because it is hard for swimmers to tell how far they are from the shore.

Why does it seem like so many victims lately of freak occurences are from Ramat Beit Shemesh?
Could it be because of the blatant Sinas Chinam, which is so rampant there?
Or, are people going to dismiss it as coincidental?

Apparently #2's comment was meant as a "hamayvin yovin" type of comment. Mrs. Boro Parker, you are apparently from Boro Park and not from Ramat Beit Shemesh. Thus, you don't need to know about machlokes in RBS. The only thing you need to know is that machlokes and sinas chinam cause a lessening of bracha and that's all you need to know.

Is this the smartest comment you came up with after such a tragedy?

boruch dayan haemes

about comment # 14, I thik it was ironic

it's well known that it's very dangerous during the 3 weeks and one should refrain to go swimming and travelling etc.

It doesn't change that it's really a tragedy, I hope teenagers will be more careful not go to alone to the beach, especially by night.

Tzriel, Obviously you do not understand sarcasam. He was trying to tell the person who mentioned swimming with the girlfriend that just because one went swimming with his girlfriend he does not deserve to die.

(Reply to #17) No, he/she was replying to #2 post. If we are going to decide why this tragedy happened anyone can write why it happened. Accroding to #2, this is happening b/c of sinas chinom and accroding to the other poster b/c he had a girlfriend. Lesson learnt: Don't try to guess why tragidies (sp?) happen.

He was the brother of my husband's co-worker. Who cares if he had a girlfriend or lives in Ramat Bet Shemesh. Focus on the positive things- like he was a yeshiva student in Tzfat and had a heart of gold.
My husband knows the pain his family is going through. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion.
