Manhattan, NY - According to NY Post PageSix, Ruth Madoff was overhead at California Pizza Kitchen gushing about how happy she is Bernie is going to Otisville:

Ruth Madoff was with a friend at California Pizza Kitchen, the East Side eatery. According to one witness, Ruth had just learned that her Ponzi-schemer hubby, Bernie Madoff, will be locked away in upstate Otisville, the prison his lawyer had requested. "I'm so glad! It's just what we wanted," she gushed to her dining companion.

Otisville is a medium security prison only 70 miles outside of New York.

Bernie's first choice was Otisville and his assignment is another indication he made a deal with the Feds before he was sentenced.

SEC Inspector General H. David Kotz's three-hour meeting with Bernie at the MMC a couple of weeks ago is a sign that Bernie agreed to cooperate on other matters of interest to the SEC. Bernie was on Wall Street for more than forty years and he knows where the bodies are buried.

As an aside, Ruth bubbling that Otisville "is just what we wanted" is more evidence she is standing by her man.

I wish people would just lay-off Ruth Maddoff and I DO feel sorry for her.

I was not ripped off by Bernie Madoff (B"H I did not have any money to invest with him). But at the same time she has been found innocent on all accounts and she suffered enough. Imagine your husband of 50 years being carted off to jail and losing your home and everything.

CAN YOU CONTROL YOUR HUSBAND IN EVERYTHING HE DOES???? does she really have to suffer for his crimes.

As for otisville at least he will have a minyan there and perhaps Lipa will go sing for him from time to time....

Isnt it funny how all of a sudden an prison upgrade makes a person happy?
Why wasnt he happy with a roof over his head and food on the table?

It may not be a picnic, but the judge first refused him. Why the change?

The Judge did not refuse to send him there, he refused to make a recommendation, and said let the Department of Corrections make the decision.

I agree with #1... There's no way Bernie let his wife in on his snowballing scheme. It was enough that he was tormented by what lay ahead. First, she would have had a hard time keeping it to herself - something he couldn't chance, 2nd, why cause her sleepless nights. So, like Mrs. Boro Parker says, the missus has enough on her plate, and plenty of people almost as angry with her as with her hubby. She ain't livin' the life of Riley anymore -- no need to get vicious. (Plenty of us have no clue as to what our husbands are up to when they're not in our presence. We just trust them and believe they're behaving. They better be!!!)

It's a good choice. why should tax money go to putting him in a maximum security prison, when he is not a violent inmate.

I'm crying

I understand that he did something very bad and he deserves the punishment
But are we better?
R we doing every think that god told us to do?
Every buddy makes mistakes. He also did and he needs to be punished but my heart hurts for him. He will be there for the rest of his life.
When I have to punish my son I will do it but it will hurt me.
Nebech Barney
I feel bad for you.
I hope after this he will go strait to Gan Eden.

Yidden wake up! we represent 1/5th of 1% of the world population, 1 in 5 Nobel Prize winners is Jewish, thats 20% But we are under a microscope to the rest of the world in everything we do. No group with such an insignificant population attracts more press coverage. Let us remeber to do a Kiddish Hashem in everything we do. That means everything, driving, parking and just saying please & thank you to the goyim.

First of all I am surprised Ruth still has a friend willing to be seen with her in public. Second of all Ruth deserves everything that has befallen her. The lifestyle she lead when she has money was so over the top that it's nausiating. It is beyond belief. Well, it turns out it was all hot air. So now she is living the lifestyle she should have been leading all the years. Poor Ruth has to survive on $2.5 million.

First of all # 19 you are very funny. Gelt is the right song, however he doesn't deserve any entertainment!!!! In my humble opinion he deserves hard labor. Look at how many lives he destroyed. Let's forget the people that killed themselves over the loss of all their money. He IS a murderer! Just because he didn'y actually kill him woth his own hands, he's still guilty.

I agree, Criminal minds have to think that the consequence will be brutal, sometimes its a direct act of hashem and sometimes in thru a messenger like last week parsha with pinchus

As a asken in the community, its heartbreaking to watch the family of the convicted criminal, the parents ,the wife, the kids, they are all helpless the justice and correction system do their jobs, there is no rachmonis . All the money in the world does not pay the cost to the health of the family of the convict, like the chofets chaim said dont cry after the facts when its to late , you should have cried before hand .

34

Jul 13, 2009 at 10:39 AM Sol Says:

Folks, wifes ,kids, parents or freinds if you are aware of a criminal act or even grey acts that is not kosher and if caught by the law the results will be terrible then please cry beforhand to your close kinships to stop what they are doing Cry to them not to jeopardize the family and if your cries dont help go to a rav and beg for help to stop the criminal acts of a loved one, lets cry before hand not after the facts when its to late

35

Jul 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM Shaindy Says:

Yes the family is always the one that ends up suffering the embarassment . The questions of people to the family are always the same like Why didnt the family do something to stop the convict of perpetrating the crime? like they had a choice or the convict would have listen to their voices ,lets remember a criminal will not listen to his wife his parents or his friends if he is out to do something bad its usually done with a vengence ,So the oilem shouldnt ask questions of the family its not the family"s fault. the family is a innocent bystander as everone else is

36

Jul 13, 2009 at 11:53 AM Joe Says:

as an ex inmate I never realized how much a stranger and the community could show so much love to me. You all looked beyond the bad and the ugly. You all looked beyond the crimes that I had done . I felt so bad for my family but it was to late nothing that i have been able to undo what bad I have done . I am a changed person now and I will never commit a criminal act ever. Tsuvah changes people. But my advise is dont commit crimes it doesnt pay

Kotz is the SEC Inspector General, so he has been speaking with Madoff. I'm sure his shul and his kid's yeshivas lost plenty to Madoff somehow. I think his kids were in the other yeshiva, not Jack Abramoff's.

I don't feel sorry for Madoff. I ache for his family. I've been through this experience with my youngest son who was also in the financial industry. We are grateful every day that he returned home safe and in good spirts after completing a short sentence in a satellite camp. He was productive with his time, maintained a blog site and even wrote a book!
