Brooklyn, NY - Owner Touting His Scooters As Convenient |
|
“When you’re driving a scooter, you’re at one with Brooklyn,” said Chaim Seewald, owner of ScootNY
.
The six-week-old Downtown outlet features a lineup of motorized bicycles and scooters from four different brands (though none from the Italian giant Vespa). Seewald, a resident of Crown Heights, is touting their gas mileage (anywhere from 96 to 150 miles per gallon!) and their affordability (prices are $1,699 to $2,600).
Oh, and you can park it almost anywhere.
To Seewald, a scooter is the logical alternative to the subway, with its just-hiked fares.
“It’s cheaper [than a monthly pass] to actually finance one of our bikes,” said Seewald, “The more expensive the subway gets, the more ideal [having a scooter] is going to be.”
Since opening the store, Seewald says he has become more aware of Brooklyn’s community of scooter enthusiasts.
“It’s a lifestyle in a sense,” he said.

It is assur to ride on shabbos, even if you are the passenger in the back. I'm not sure whats wrong with riding wthout a shirt on weekdays.(for men not for women of course).

Men also have tznius rules. you may show your elbows but you can't have a sleevless shirt or very short sleeves, you may not show your knees either.

On a very serious and related note - If you are even considering buying a moped, scooter, or motorcycle then please take a motorcycle safety course. It may be required by law in your state, and the training could save your life.

Been riding a Honda Metropolitan for the past four years to and from work and shul here in Baltimore. It's great and the kids love it, except for the BYHS girls.

He was being sarcastic. he was pointing out that chareidim generaly don't subscribe to the chiloni lifestyle of driving a scooter. Not sure he's right though bc i've seen a number of frume with scooters.

Frume men generally wear long trousers but short sleeve shirts are mutar in all but some fringe hareidi communities (sleeves must reach the elbows and shirts to cover the collarbone). Socks are considered optional, based on the minhag hamakom.. Sandals without socks, while generally not worn in shul or bes medrash, are usually accepted in MO settlements for daily dress but would be totally assur in a haredi shul or bes medrash. Millhouse provided the citations for this once.

Why do you think insurance companies charge higher premiums for life and disability ins. if you are a driver of a motorcycle, scooter etc. or you do sky diving, bungee jumping. or are a smoker? Can it be that there is a statistical correlation between accidents, injuries and death and these "innocent" acts?
