"There's no information of a similar threat to New York, but it's our standard practice now to take such precautions," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in a statement.
New York -- home to Wall Street, the Broadway theater district and other attractions that draw millions of tourists and businesspeople every year -- has been highly attuned to security threats since the September 11 attacks in 2001 that killed 2,749 people at the World Trade Center site.
Police spokesman Paul Browne said extra squad cars and officers had surrounded large hotels in New York within half an hour of the Jakarta bombings.
Suicide bombers struck at the JW Marriott hotel and the nearby Ritz-Carlton in Jakarta, (as was reported here on VIN News).

2009.07.14 (Mosul, Iraq) - A woman is murdered in her home by Jihadi gunmen.
2009.07.15 (Pattani, Thailand) - Two civilians are shot to death by Muslim radicals in separate attacks.
2009.07.15 (Ghazni, Afghanistan) - Two civilians lose their lives to a Taliban bomb hidden on a bicycle
2009.07.15 (Border, Ingushetia) - Two innocents are gunned down in their car by Muslim separatists.
2009.07.17 (Kut, Iraq) - A young woman is shot to death in a Muslim honor killing.
2009.07.17 (Garma, Iraq) - Two young girls, ages 6 and 12, are killed in a brutal bombing by Holy Moslem Warriors outside their home.
2009.07.17 (Shopian, India) - A 17-year-old girl is shot to death in her home by Muslim terrorists.
2009.07.17 (Yala, Thailand) - Two security personnel are murdered in a militant bomb attack.
2009.07.17 (Khyber, Pakistan) - A shopkeeper dies in a Taliban bombing at a market.
2009.07.17 (Baghdad, Iraq) - A married couple is blown apart in a Mujahadeen bombing.
Not even one of these attacks has anything to do with a Christian, or a Jew and yet, they call Christians and Jews, "the infidels."
Every single one of the above murders happened during only three days, and every murder was done by members of the Religion of Peace.
