Rockland County, NY - A committee made up of a cross-section of Rockland residents will work with hard-to-reach local communities to boost response to the 2010 Census.

Officials from the U.S. Census Bureau and the county made the announcement today in New City.

The all-volunteer Rockland County Complete Count Committee will meet over the next two months to plan grass-roots activities, and begin their campaign this fall. The Census begins on April 1.

The Census Bureau has identified Haverstraw, Kaser, New Square and Spring Valley as the most difficult places to receive a response to the population survey and home visits by Census takers.

Before all bashers come ashore, there is good reason to it.
In the Torah you'll find yidden were never counted directly, only by shekels etc.
Its known the story of King Dovid (in tanach) that wanted to count the yidden and what happened then.

Guess what - making a CHILLUL HASHEM is a bigger concern than an ayin hora!

I guess, there is a good reason why it is so, KI"H big family with lots of kids and so many answers, if the children are less than 15 years old, or let's say even 10 you shouldn't be required to answer so many questions, yes it is important to know how many children per family, but there should be a box to check off if child is less than x age proceed to # x etc. It would save us all allot of time, and the census bureau would've had their forms filled out completely!

Are you a certified posek? you are absolutely wrong.
You can always make it natural by talking nice, or giving a rounded number not exactly.
If the Torah was careful, we should do likewise.

Sorry, not everything can be labeled "C.H."
You ought to know better. The census is voluntary and as such in a free society where family size would - should - be of no concern to the mainstream liberal mind, short of them showing these holy families the respect they deserve, well, then I say keep the door shut.

If you all would actually read the article before bashing, you will notice that one of the places has no frum yidden at all (Haverstraw), and another one (Spring Valley) is mostly non-frum also. So even if it would be a chillul hashem, this isn't something that is only nogea to frum people.

The people taking the census have been appointed from Obama's left wing Acorn group, so it is in their interest to undercount our community and overcount their community since government representation in the Congress is based on these results. We must make sure we are all counted so that we will not lose representation

What a long shot! Please tell me that was in jest.

The constitution merely requires an enumeration of the citizenry...thus the packet that inquires (rather invasively, I may add) as to how many appliances you own, how many rooms are in the house, etc etc, should be left blank.
