New York - 11 Brooklyn Man, 2 Rabbis, Part Of FBI Raid [complaints] |

About 30 other officials from New Jersey were arrested in a wide-sweeping corruption probe by the FBI.
The criminal complaints allege that the suspects were involved in corruption and money laundering. some of the suspects are Rabbis, and operators of Check cashing business in NYC.
Due to many rumors, VIN News has decide to publish the names to avoid false information circulating in the community.
Arrested were,
Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, Schmulik Cohen, Levi Deutsch, Binyomin Spira, Yeshayahu Ehrental, Mordchai Fish, Rabbi Of Brooklyn Congregation Sheves Achim, Lavel Schwartz, Yoely Gertner, Abraham Pollack, Naftoly Weber, Rabbi Saul Kassin Chief Rabbi of Sharee Zion, a synagogue located on Ocean Parkway.
Theses individuals are not guilty of any crime, until proven otherwise by a court of law

At least Ben Brafman will be busy. Really sad how most of the community struggles to pay tuition and other expenses, and some guys with money feel they need to launder to save a few bucks. Give charity with your own legal money. Same exact thing happened with crook turned witness little while back and people are just too stupid. Not sure why, but I just have little sympathy for any of the people caught up on this. Theres no easy money these days, not in cash, mortgage fraud, penny stock scams, everyone gonna have to work for an honest living like the vast majoritty of us.

You make it sound as if most people just give charity for a write off. This is not true. Most people give charity because they are good people. And by the way, there is nothing wrong to give charity for a write off. You should give as much charity allowed under the tax code to get a write off.

To little me, this does not sound like a "9 day calamity" , it sounds like the wool has been pulled from many eyes on things that have been dealt under the table for many years. People always like "a good deal" to make a quick buck but that does not mean it has to be something illegal.
People will remain innocent until proven guilty but there is no smoke without fire - at the end of it they may not be proven guilty but it doesn't mean they acted 100% above board.
It sad that there are so many cases of corruption and money laundering in the frum community and I'm sure this list is not complete.

It is a well known fact that when the police are making an arrest they like to do it with the biggest racket. The police on the street making the arrest don’t care if you are innocent, if you have a family, etc. They just like to act important.
A relative of mine was arrested driving off the ramp of the BQE. A highway patrol call ran his license number and it came up stolen. He was handcuffed and arrested and taken to the 90 pct station. He was left standing outside the station with his hands cuffed in the back for a long time while the arresting offices where standing outside and joking. Some frum people walking or driving by wanted to know וואס האט שוין דער אידישער שגץ געטוהן.
Only problem was that that stupid police office put in an “I” instead of an “L”. An innocent person was arrested by mistake. I hope you all learn from such a story…
BTW… I read thru some of these indictments. You can see plain simple and clear that some are based on what the witness said… and even if it is true, he just lured people in.
Also keep in mind that the מצוה of פדיון שבויים is not just for innocent people under arrest and the עבירה of לשון הרע is even if it is true.
Lets all stop pointing fingers and lets all be מתפלל for all of כלל ישראל.

Under Christie the US Attorney's office had a 100% conviction rate for public corruption. They did not lose a single case. These are the same people working there and on the investigation. This is highly sensitive and can be explosive for the federal government and the FBI if the FBI would arrest them on poor charges. The arrests must have been approved by the higher ups with in the Justice Department, let alone the director of the FBI himself. This means that the case was very well investigated and has solid evidence for the approval to have happen. No career FBI lawyer or an agent would risk losing that promotion if they arrested bunch of NJ politicians and the charges were bogus.
For many this is hard to accept that such an egregious crime including human organ trafficking could have been carried out by an organized criminal ring with in a Frum community. So many will deflect the issue, blame others, blame Obama, scream antisemitism, but the reality is that the frum world has to start deep soul searching. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last. Hopefully Hashem forgive. There needs to be an attitude adjustment as to how some in the frum world perceives secular law and government.

There is no longer enough legitimate economic activity in the chareidi community to feed, clothe, provide health care and domicile the thousands of unemployed, unemployable and underemployed men and women. invalid comparison; the police are thugs who aren't very bright, and they make mistakes all the time. the fbi is a lot smarter, not to mention they usually follow these things for years before making a move. when the fbi arrests people, they may be acquitted of some of the initial charges, but very rarely does anyone ever get off scot-free. apparently they've been following these guys for 10 years. why not arrest before now? they were dotting their i's and crossing their t's.

I wouldn't call buying a kidney and selling it "human organ trafficking." The connotation is far worse as it is possible, that many of these charges sound far worse than they are.

I had the same question, but this is how the story was told. It's obviously a very high level, thinking that by bypassing the Post Office it would ultimately hurt the government by them not having sufficient revenue. I used this as an extreme example, to demonstrate the point.

Sad but true. Nice quiet people are never arrested. The reason is that it is in the nine days and came to this country after my experience and had to struggle and kept my nose clean and never had a run in with any federal agency , matter a fact I passed a test for an FBI job and the reason I did not get the job because a lot veterans applied who had kadima. I agree totally. When will some changes start to happen at the roots? When will some real Rabbis stand up and make a zero tolerance policy for financial crimes? When will young talmidim start to be taught about ethics?
Even simple stories like what's happening in the girls camp at the old Homowack hotel set a bad example. Why do our people thing you can ignore the Government and do things without permits? Follow the rules, get the permits and then open your camp. Forget the risks to campers and staff. Why does it have to come to the State getting the Attorney General involved? Our people have to stop with this "anything goes" mentality.
During the Bush administration, the Feds made terrorism a much higher priority. Now that the economy was rocked, white collar crimes are the number 1 priority. Yidden have to remember this and act accordingly. Some big changes are coming, the only question is will we be ready for them.

A Chilul Hashem is something that makes Jew look bad in any light. How many times have you been a trip with your yeshiva or camp to a non -jewish place and have to remind your students/campers to make a Kiddush Hashem to show how good and well behaved Jewish people behave and not a Chilul Hashem- C"V!. Rarely have I heard the same thing when going to a kosher supermarket.

I don't know what Mr. Dwek's case was all about, but he too was inticed by the FBI to cooperate and Frame innocent people, and for that he gets a reward! What Mr. Dwek did, should in reality be a crime to humanity, not only according to the Jewish Law or Mesirah, but for being a" Choteh Umachati"; a sinner who made other people sin. Shouldn't he be punished for causing so much "crime"?? This should be against the Law of the USA , a reward should be posted for anybody that reveals every step he took in that direction and each one should be another count against him..
I know of a case where a person was arrested for similar crime. The court had all the tapes including the one where the convict was heard pleading with the person who was out to Frame him, that he should leave him alone, and he did not want to get involved in the illegal activity. This agent from the government persevered until he succeeded him getting this guy involved, as he brought him a deal that was too tempting to refuse. The government is truly creating creating criminals. Why don't they do the reverse, send agents to teach and educate the public to abide by the law.
I doubt if the president of the USA would be able to withstand such enticing, nor would the prosecutors or judges,or the FBI themselves. What is the domocratic world coming to??
In the Mid East the citizens are persecuted for defying the ISLAM religion and the world is enraged, while the United States of America is persecuting people that are enticed to violate the law,.The Middle East may yet get wind of injustice of the "Democracy in the USA" and perhaps they'll be able to defend their" reaction" towards anyone that defies their religion, and proudly say "we defend our religion,"Islam", the same way you defend your "religion", "the mighty dollar".

Interesting. I looked it up. His name was Red Levine (Sam "Red" Levine). I saw in a book just now that he would not murder on shabbos, but if he had to do a contract on shabbos, he would pray first with a tallis then go out and kill.
Oddly enough, after most of Murder Inc was locked away in the 1940s, he just disappeared from view and was never heard from again.
The thing is these Jews were around in the dirty 30s and they grew up poor and lived rough on the lower east side. Jews today don't really kill, with maybe a few exceptions. Some guys kill their wives and also Russians. I believe there was some story on 59th st with a family of murderers.

If Rosenbaum wanted to do such a chesed, why didn't he just match up people for free? Or why didn't Rosenbaum just charge the recipient 10k and give it to the donor? Although that would be illegal, but there would be no profit, so he has more of a defense saying he was only trying to help.
