Jerusalem - After a relatively calm week in the capital, ultra-Orthodox protests have resumed in Jerusalem Saturday afternoon.

Some 500 ultra-Orthodox Jews clashed with police on Shivtei Israel Street in order to protest the opening of the municipal Karta parking lot on Shabbat. Police forces deployed at the scene ahead of time in an effort to maintain order.

Meanwhile, several haredim arrived at the disputed parking lot and attempted to block its entrance to protest the decision to open it on Shabbat.

Protesters threw marbles at police. Forces dispatched to the scene removed the ultra-Orthodox from the site.

Elsewhere, two young haredim were detained on Bar-Ilan Street in the capital on suspicion of hurling stones at passing vehicles. No injuries were reported in the incident, but several vehicles were reportedly damaged.

Recent protests in Jerusalem focused on the arrest of an ultra-Orthodox mother suspected of starving her three-year-old son. The demonstrations abated after the mother was sent to house arrest last weekend.

The recent wave of haredi riots in Jerusalem started after city hall decided to open the Safra parking lot on Shabbat. The initiative led to violent riots by thousands of haredim in the capital and left six police officers injured.

Following the clashes, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat offered a compromise: Opening the Karta parking lot instead of Safra, yet the proposal was rejected as well by the ultra-Orthodox, who continued to riot on the following Saturdays.

Still waiting for someone from this community to do something positive. Invite someone not as religious to a shabbos meal. Teach them the beauty of shabbos. Learn with someone secular once a week. Teach them the beauty of Yiddishkeit. But no, they throw stones at people instead. Real, real smart.

I am generally considered frum, shomer Shaboss.
I am sick of this behavior. I can not say that I can pasken but some of these actions do not sound like halachicly correct no matter what.
Now, when I see anybody collecting for a mosad in E.Y. the first thing I think about is this story and the images.
I do not consider myself a self hating jew so please skip those comments.
PS: Parents, if you have sons in EY make sure you know what they are doing on Shaboss.

Enough already. Why don't the police use tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse these disgusting Chareidi protestors.

The zionists are constantly making up false stories against the Hareidim. Trying to portray this sect as monsters, when just the opposite is true the Hareidim are the only peace loving and non-violent group in Israel. Israel "stop now the BLOOD LIBEL against the Hareidy community".

I'm a religious Jew myself. A ba'al teshuva actually. And I grew up in two of the most religious neighborhoods in New York and New Jersey, and believe me, there wasn't an ounce of kiruv or any type of outreach to the thousands of conservative, reform, and secular yidden in the neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods except for one man. And that was Rabbi Paysach Krohne. It was because of him that my family eventually became religious. But let me assure you that in both well-known communities, no one else lifted a finger. And do you honestly believe that kiruv is at the top of the list of people from meah shearim? The philosophy has always been "let me work on myself. If my neighbor is going to burn in gehinnom, so be it."

There are problems in all of our communities, but there is something intrinsically "off" in the chinuch of the charedi rock throwers and violence instigators. They hate the Medinah (this is not a debate about Zionism) but can you imagine what would happen to the rioters if they pulled this in any other country in the world. Consider that challilah yeshivah boys in NY stirred up this kind of madness. Wouldn't the police interfere and stop the riots? What drives these mobs in Yerushalayim to become so insanely angry? I hate the comparison, but it reminds me how someone once said that in NY crime rises every summer because low-class hoodlums are out of school, it's hot out and they're bored and frustrated. So they wreak havoc on neighborhoods. Is this the story here?

what's reported by the unreligious media is biased & not at all what one would see himself had he gone there.
There is a unit in the israeli police force called Yasam, who's job is to instigate and cause a commotion to allow them to 'justify' using force, after which point it becomes violent if the protesters want it or not. Ask any Israeli who ever witnessed a demonstration and they will tell you the truth about those units and there lust for violence.

There are numerous families living in batei hungari and shomer emunim who exemplify the mitzva of hochnosos orchim -- their doors are open to all -- 50-60 guests EVERY SHABBOS and EVERY YOM TOV. These guests are ashkenazi, sephardi, chasidish, litvish, frum and not-yet frum.

Please, Yisroel, do not make sweeping accusations that characterize other yidden in a negative light -- it is ossur and very harmful during the nine days.

As Rav Pappenheim of the Eida Chariedis said: A person who gets a stone hurled at his windshield will NEVER become a Baal Teshuva.

It's becoming increasingly embarrassing to walk around as a Chareidi nowadays...

Its no blood libel against chareidim. Look at the pictures in Haaretz or any one of a half dozen newspapers from EY. They ARE throwing rocks at the police and other garbage. Some are bragging about and say "the police deserve it" etc. They bring the blood libel on themselves.
