Spring Glen, NY - State Gives Skver Until Monday to Vacate Former Homowack Lodge |
|
The DOH has given the Congregation Bais Trana until Monday to leave the resort, now called Machne Bnos Square.
The sect opened a girls camp in early July without a permit and has refused to leave despite warnings from emergency officials.
About 265 girls and about 35 families occupy several buildings in the sprawling resort off Route 209.
"The order is based on serious health and safety conditions that continue to exist at the facility," said Health Department spokesman Juan Merino in a prepared statement.
The department has indicated that if the congregation doesn't leave, the agency will start a court action to force it off the grounds.
On July 13, DOH and Town of Mamakating officials asked the congregation to leave voluntarily. The Health Department has since cited the owners for numerous health and safety violations.
An unoccupied, three-story building burned to the ground last week. Authorities believe it was arson.
County officials have also called the buildings firetraps, noting the buildings don't have working sprinkler systems and have electrical and plumbing problems. The congregation does a 24-hour fire watch.

Why are they waiting till Monday? During the nine days right before tish'a ba'av we do not need to be tempting fate. They should send buses and take the girls home Sunday morning before, chas va'chalilah there is some tragedy and we have to see pictures of the Skvere rebbe being dragged away in handcuffs.

You have to listen to both sides before commenting. For one, the picture is of a building that is not in use. second, i heard they are working non stop to fix the problems they have in the buildings they are using. Then again, the town is doing everything they can to get them out of there because they are upset that they can't collect the taxes they used to make when it was a hotel. I don't know who is right or wrong. But one thing i do know is that there are always two sides to a story.

Are you sure your facts are right? I was there and it's used for the families. It's even open in the winter to house the bochurim midweek getaways. It's condition is disturbing and very unrelaxing. But on the other hand mamakating county officials are nasty barsteds too.

Your comments (#5) are amamzing and you probably feel beeter for posting something that is against the facts. It is no secret the the locals are upset that they can't pinpoint any violations. Other then asking for"voluntary evacuation"
So please put your act together find out the "real" facts

As a parent I have inspected the facilities my self and spoke to parties on both sides, they were not cited with any code violation and it is simple media that bashes frum jews. It is no secret that the locals have a problem with 400+ acres that will soon be built in an area that according to area history was "yuden rien" for many years.
Who do you think set a nearby un-used building on fire other then the locals that wanted to draw more attention to themselves. Just wait and see how soon they will catch those guyes responsible.
The local media is well known for their .... articles
So all of you stop the non-sense get a life and go on with your daily routins instead of bashing others especialy when you are not familiar with the facts. Don't let the media manipulate your mind

I don't understand ahotel was up and running all of these years and it was okay by the town, but when a camp comes in the place is no good? I don't even think the place was vacant from the time the hotel was closed till the time the camp opened. To me it sounds like a loss of money issue to the town!

Not one of you know what you are talking about. The entire hotel is1-- A fire hazard. The fire sprinkler system has been removed by the maintenance company due to non payment .2-- The hotel is a danger due to exposed electrical wires all over the place.3-- It is a danger due to mold and mildew all over. Why do parents want their children to stay in a place like that, even if the kids are in a different area.It is one big building. It is a breeding ground for germs,in addition to rat and mouse droppings. There is water running from broken pipes. The entire place has a terrible rotten sewer odor. from broken sewer pipes. This is something I have seen myself last Sunday after walking thru the entire premises. It is no place you would want your children. Why would someoone expose his children to this? The hotel was totally neglected for a long time now,and additionally, before the winter there were no steps taken to prepare the plumbing and sewer for the winter, causing the pipes to burst and the sewer to run all over the lobby. If this is not a hazard, then I don't know what is.
