Tallahassee, FL - Governor's Office Mistakenly Praises Nazi Film |

The governor's office sent out a letter with his signature that thanked John Ubele of Pasco County for providing the governor with a DVD of "Jud Suss." The Nazi-produced film is recognized as one of history's most incendiary.
In closing a brief thank-you note, Crist praised Ubele's thoughtfulness and generosity and said he would be delighted to share the DVD with the people of Florida.
"I was surprised considering the stigma that has been associated with the film," Ubele said in an exchange of e-mails with The Associated Press. "I was even more suprised when I looked at the signature because from what I can tell it looks real."
Ubele said the signature appeared to be signed by a marker.
The governor's office, however, said it was an embarrassing mistake.
"We are NOT sharing the DVD with the people of Florida," said Sterling Ivey, the governor's press secretary. "The governor does not support this view. The letter was sent out prior to us reviewing the DVD that was sent."
The 1940 film was produced 
by the Nazi propaganda arm and was a great success in Germany and abroad, although it was banned in Sweden in 1941 and has never been shown in that country.
Within the Third Reich, "Jud Suss" was the No. 1 film of the 1939-1940 season when it was seen by more than 20 million people. Anti-Jewish violence was reported after its projection in Marseille, France, for one example.
Ubele, who ran unsuccessfully for the state Legislature, is the operations manager of a group called the Nationalist Coalition that promotes "white activism."
On its Website, the organization says it is working to create the relationships to lay a foundation for the White community necessary to "do whatever is necessary to achieve white living space and to keep it White."

I always thought Crist was a moderate republican but this episode raises questions. The fact that he would even communicate with this neo Nazi is reason enough to wonder what his real beliefs are.

Of course he "communicates" with the neo Nazi. In fact, at least prior to this event, I'd have bet that even if you sent him a copy of Kapital or Mein Kampf or even the Bill of Rights... that he'd have sent you a thank you note.
In other words, it's a general form letter type of response that pretty much automatically goes out to anyone. There's no real "there, there".

How was he supposed to know who this person was? If someone sends you a present, it's only polite to send a thank you letter.

Not only are you right, but it most likely is a demorcatic effort to discredit him. Look for many of these mean-spirited attempts to throw mud at other Republicans.

Yes, the same effort to "smear" the governor of Florida is by the same people who lied about Sarah Palin, who were part of the plot against the menatally disturbed mother in Yerushalayim, who lied about the bocnhurim rioting in meah shearrim and who set up the New Jersey rabbis for the sting operation. Its all part of one big conspiracy against frum yidden and Republicans who support eretz yisroel.

What conspiracy? The governor's staff made an honest mistake and corrected it. This hasn't even been mentioned on dailykos.com.

I lived in FL until late August last year. I don't believe she's Jewish. I thought she was Italian or spanish. I can't remember her maiden name. They were married in a church. But He does seem to love Israel. He had a Chabad rabbi give the invocation at his inauguration and I understand he studies with him regularly. He made his first trade mission to Israel when elected. However I got a similar boilerplate letter when I wrote to inform him of an incident of genuine anti-semitism we suffered in 2007. See VIN Oct 25, 2007 about a St. Pete (the guv's home town) teacher being threatened along with other Jews in the school. That was my husband and the cops fluffed it off even tho the tone of the note could have been another Columbine in the making. They definitely said it was NOT hate speech. "Jews will die on Oct 25" isn't hate speech. It was written on Oct. 24.
Charlie is smooth. He seems to say the right things, Why don't I trust him? Oh right, he's a politician.
