David Yosef's family members say he departed from the US just hours before the FBI swept into the community to arrest 44 of its members, who are suspected of involvement in the case. "(He was) very lucky," said a member of the family who resides in Brooklyn.
Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Haim is considered a close associated of Rabbi David Yosef, and the two have been regarded as close since their days in the yeshiva.
Sources from the Syrian-Jewish community in New York also say Aryeh Deri visited them in May in order to request donations for a new political party, which he defined as a "social, haredi-secular party whose members are key Israeli personalities".
The American Syrian-Jewish community has donated funds in the past to a number of haredi institutions, especially those owned by Shas and the family of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the party's spiritual leader. Aryeh Deri could not be reached for comment.
In Israel the money laundering case has taken its effect and members of the ultra-Orthodox community have begun to seek legal counsel over the activities of various haredi organizations and institutions, in order to verify their observance of the law.

The main organization used to wash the money was Friends of Yehave Da'at, which is the Kollel of Rabbi David Yosef.
If the FBI thought he was involved, I highly doubt they would have let him leave the country.

They don't care about the foreign criminals. They want to clean up their own backyard to protect the integrity of the U.S.

We all must know that the unbelievable media coverage does not clearly state the simple fact that all the arrests made with headlines Rabbi's Politicians money launderers and the like did not have a single case between all 44 people that was not set up by the FBI with Dwek approaching only his Rabbis and friends, how can you call a person a criminal money launderer if he only did it for a very close friend who cried for mercy and with the experience work of FBI agents setting it up.
Who can say on himself that he is bullet proof and would be strong withstanding his good friend the son of a Rabbi all planned by FBI agents

Its not about the FBI "sting" or who turned informant. Its about crooked guys in the community and the perception that its OK to steal from a "goyisha government" ie the USA. All that davening doesn't make up for crooked guys doing what we all know what they are doing. It hurts those of us who have to live and work in the USA.

I'm sorry, but I would not commit crimes for anyone unless MAYBE it was to save an immediate life in danger. I have been approached with several shady business deals in the past and I have always walked away from anything that even smelled fishy. Are so many yidden so naive and ignorant that they can be so easliy "suckered" into committing mafia-like crimes? I don't believe it. I hardly know anyone that dumb. I do, unfortunately, know people willing to take risks with illegal activities in order to make money. They are not naive, or ignorant.... just greedy.

Running a gemach to help thousands of Yidden is stealing from the government? and if we are talking about tax evasion, not paying taxes (i.e. keeping your own money) while maybe illegal, I would not word that as stealing from the government. AND if all the Yiddishe community based selp help organizations closed down, do you think the government could replace them for the same money or less? Never! How many people are helped, that don't need to go on programs because there's Yidden that collect money, work in offices, perform services, all as volunteers, to help their fellow Yidden? Mi ki'amcha Yisroel! Here you have moiser, who is a professional crook, that ran after every nook and cranny to nail people to lessen his charges. I don't know who your leadership is but my leadership are the most honest, dedicated, selfless people in the world and I would put them up against any goy in America any day. Assuming they're guilty, which I don't, I still wouldn't make a rule from an exception.
