Emerainville, France – French officials say a Muslim woman wearing a head-to-toe swimsuit has been denied access to a public swimming pool in a town southeast of Paris.

Emerainville Mayor Alain Kelyor said Wednesday the 35-year-old woman was not allowed to swim in the pool wearing a so-called “burquini” covering her body from head to toe.
Officials say the outfit is unhygienic and potentially harmful to other swimmers.
The woman, a convert to Islam, has complained to police that the ban is discriminatory.
The incident adds to controversy over the wearing of the head-to-toe burqa or other full-body coverings worn by some Muslim fundamentalists. President Nicolas Sarkozy wants them banned.
But she wants to bathe with men?
hey if they are able to wear a burquini to the pool why can’t they go around like that all of the time. after all the pool i am sure is mixed swimming. and for those who say why don’t jewish women walk around in bathing suits we do not swim with men. if they wear a burka on the street for modesty around men why is a burquini accepted in the pool around men for? but this burquini sure looks better then those hidious burkas

As religious people, we need to be on guard for restrictions placed on the rights of followers of other religions because Jews could be next.
I would suspect that France bans single-sex pools. It’s a pity we can’t work more closely with the Muslims on such issues.

Does jewish law permit mixed swimming if everyone is covered head to toe like that and there is no touching?
It just shows how religious groups need to learn to take care of their own and stop looking to secular governments to protect our rights. There is nothing to stop a private group from opening a swimming pool, or opening a private beach with separate hours. That is the best solution.
they should not be allowed into public places either , they should live in their own closed places not with the rest of society ,like mea shearim stay there dont come out
I personally was in the Meridian Hotel (former Hyatt) in Yam Hamelech. They allowed Muslim women in the pool with dresses and head coverings in the therapy salt water pools. These same secular jewish anti semites prohibited orthodox Jewish women from wearing bath caps and tee shirts and threw them out of pool.
The solution should be that all women should wear suits, skirts and head coverings from special spandex for swimming. That should be the rule for everyone.
Remember, the French sonim and European anti-Semites deserve everything they get from the Muslim populations growing at 30-40% above their own birthrates.
Their own will have todress like this in the next decades to come . May they both kill each other .

What does Halachos of mixed swimming and znius have to do with Muslims? They have their own religion, customs and laws. Just like your catholic neighbor down the block.

I had the same problem in Belgium.
I went swimming in aqualibi where my bermuda swim wear wasn’t good enough they actually forced me to buy (20 euro’s) a spedo tight swim pants which look like a tight diaper. (Same went for my wife.)
Its redicules in europe.
Someone should manufacture something similar here for frum women to wear to the gym.
