Avi Amenov was in the back seat of a silver BMW racing a Lexus down Francis Lewis Boulevard in Bayside Wednesday night when the BMW clipped the Lexus and spun out of control before crashing into a parked van.

Firefighters had to cut through the car’s roof to get Avi out.

The drivers — who were still charged with vehicular assault and reckless endangerment as of last night — each had a younger cousin in his car.

Prison time, and lots of it, is in order for these murderers.

the driver is a real idiot and worse,

drag racing is one thing, but to race with a kid in the back is akin to homicide

these stories are always so sad, when the idiot survives and the innocent die

I work in an office on Francis Lewis Blvd in Bayside and let me tell you, that this is not a street for such driving (nor is any!). It is a very busy street that has seen far more than its share of tragic car accidents! Hashem Yishmor!

If a kid wants to drive fast send him to a racing school such as Skip Barber. Let them get it out of their system on a real race track with instructors who know what they’re doing. For doing this on a city street, the driver should have the book thrown at him.

Two teenagers…..one in a BMW and the other in a Lexus…Where are the parents? Letting children drive expensive cars without proper supervision. Hopefully this will be a lesson to the community which spoils their children with money and fast cars. The kids are not to blame…they are kids!

The only blame is that the driver should not be speeding with little kids in the car.
if u like drag racing then go alone,

This is homicide, pure and simple. If the idiot driving this car had been throwing knives randomly in the street and killed someone, it would be homicide. This is no different. This moron knew what he was doing and was willing to risk his life and the life of this poor child in his stupidity. Like every other crime a person chooses to do, you know the risks when you start. 25 years for homicide sounds right to me.

Unfortunately, The D.A. can’t charge the driver with more than reckless endangerment and involuntary manslaughter. I don’t see how the DA can go for man slaughter or murder 2 to get a long prison sentence. Drag racing is a sad phenomena that kills thousands of young people every year across the country.. Queens and S.I. are notorious for their drag racing cultures among teens.

Adults, parents, and teens involved only learn their lessons after tragedies strike.

I agree with blaming the parents. what was the parents thinking letting there kid get in to a sports car with a teen??? never mind the teens parents thats something else. and if they didn’t know then why don’t you know were your 12 year old is?

in terms of the punishment as I understand jail is meant to re rehabilitate right? does it? I don’t think so. they need to go to a place were they can come out good ppl, not ppl that now know murders wife beaters and such what good can they learn there?
