U2 bandEast Rutherford, NJ – U2 would not seem to be the sort of band that takes Jewish holidays into account when preparing its touring schedule, but the coming observance of Yom Kippur has required the group to reschedule a show planned for Giants Stadium next month.

In a news release today, publicists for U2 said that the group’s concert scheduled at the stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. for Sept. 25 has been moved to Sept. 23. The change was made after the New York Jets rescheduled their Sept. 27 football game against the Tennessee Titans to 1 p.m. from 4:15 pm to avoid a conflict with Yom Kippur, which starts at sundown that day.

In their release, U2’s publicists said that the staging installation for the band’s tour requires up to two days to disassemble, and the new game time made it “logistically impossible” for the installation to be broken down between a Friday night concert and a Sunday early afternoon game.

The release added: “In order to accommodate the New York Jets, the NFL and the state of New Jersey, which owns the stadium, and out of respect for U2 and Jets’ fans of Jewish faith, U2 agreed to move their show rather than pursue other options.”

You can learn from everyone.. This should serve as an example & reminder that non – jews can & do have greater respect of jewish laws & customs than do jews (at times).. Shame on the ‘jewish’ community for the recent rash of Israeli & American bad ‘jewish’ behavior’. This Yom Kippur will be judgement day for those animals!

So who’s paying for all the rescheduled airfare and hotel rooms? It’s not like there’s a U2 concert in every city of the country; there are a lot of people traveling to see them perform.

The Edge’s real name is David Evans, and his wife’s last name is Steinberg, but I’m not sure if she’s Jewish. They have a son named Levi, so maybe…

Good for U2 that they’re willing to accommodate their Jewish fans and respect Yom Kippur. I always liked their albums – very positive music.

#2 – There really was a psychedelic Kol Nidre album by the Electric Prunes back in the 60s. It was released as “Release of an Oath”.

The Edge’s wife is Jewish and at one point, possibly still now, his sister-in-law lived in Israel. My wife was an acquitance of hers when we lived in Jerusalem. U2 has played in Israel a number of times over the years. They are all quite religious and at one point the Edge even had trouble reconciling being a religious Christian and playing rock ‘n roll. Luckily, in my opinion, he came to realize how to reconcile the two.

Does U2’s music fall under the prohibition of listening to Greek music?

gimme me a break! they changed their date so as not to have issues with the Jets game and I am sure they had no leeway in the contract about that considering who the more powerful tenant is (NFL vs U2 = NFL hands down!).

This reminds me of the joke about the guy who was conflicted because the first game of the World Series came out on the night of Yom Kippur. The man went to complain to his rabbi. The rabbi tells him to use his VCR. The guy answers, “I didn’t know that you can tape Kol Nidre.”

    A New Jewish Band?
Leading pop star Bono, from U2, has discovered his Judaism after he approached an ultra-orthodox Chabad Jewish man on a street corner in New York this week.
Bono, from Ireland, told the lubavitch representative that he was “half Jewish on account of his Jewish mother.” According to an exclusive in the Israeli daily Ma’ariv (lifted from the Chabad website), the U2 star has claimed that he is of the tribe.Bono, we are told, had an alleged encounter with a Lubavitch representative on a Manhattan street. The Lubavitcher, not being a fan of ’80s rock, had no idea who he was talking to, but the two got chatting. Bono apparently claimed that his mother was Jewish and he agreed to don kippah and tefillin and recited the Shema before a large crowd. Bono is then said to have requested to keep the kippah for his forthcoming gig in Israel.
    Its not over Yet.
In 1993 The edge (the band’s guitar player) began dating Morleigh Steinberg, a proud jew. They had a daughter, Sian, and 2 years later a son named Levi was born. In June 2002 Edge and Morleigh married first in a civil ceremony in Dublin on the 18th, followed by a Jewish service in Eze-sur-Mer in the south of France on the 23rd.
Now the question is what makes music, Jewish music? is it dependent upon the sound, maybe lyrics you say? or no perhaps It has to do with the bands Neshoma? Matisyahu’s band is not totally jewish? Does it depend on the leader? maybe if he is frum or not, like shlomo carlbach OB”M which, although he led a strange life, is yet reveared to by all after his death (achray mos Kedoshim?) But do we have to wait that long? (chas veshalom).
funny enough what does this sometimes lead to..For example, what a posek has concluded that ethnic foods, e.g., Chinese, Italian, sushi, etc. are forbidden, and that Jews must only eat “Jewish food.” See Mishneh Halakhot, vol. 10, no. 111.
