Jerusalem – A 20-year-old ultra-Orthodox man demonstrating against the opening of the Karta parking lot in Jerusalem on Shabbat was moderately injured today after lying under the wheels of a car in protest of the desecration of Shabbat.

The car was stopped at a traffic light, and when the driver began to move, the haredi man was dragged several meters. He was evacuated to hospital, and the driver fled the scene.

The incident occurred shortly after the conclusion of Shabbat prayers. Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox held a mass prayer near the entrance to the controversial parking lot, as part of their ongoing protest against its opening on Shabbat.

At the end of the prayer, several of the protesters began to riot, and some of them threw themselves on the road of Hativat Yerushalayim Street in an attempt to prevent cars from driving.

The 20-year-old decided to lie under a car stopped at a traffic light nearby. When the light turned green, the car began to move, dragging the man behind it. The vehicle stopped several meters later, and after the man managed to free himself from its grip, the driver fled the scene.

A Magen David Adom crew called to the scene treated the man, and evacuated him to hospital in moderate condition.

Police launched an investigation into the incident, but it remained unclear whether the driver was aware that there was someone lying under the vehicle and drove off intentionally, or innocently did not notice.

Police barriers were stationed around the area in hopes of tracking the vehicle down. The rest of the protesters in the area were escorted back to the Mea Shearim neighborhood in the city.

Commissioner Dudi Cohen said part of the officers that were stationed at the Temple Mount for the Muslim Friday prayers will also be deployed around the Karta parking long and haredi neighborhoods on Saturday.

“The Jerusalem Police have been dealing with the haredi protests for 10 weeks now. The Jerusalem Police have managed to handle the protests nicely while maintaining restraint and sensitivity in dealing with the haredi community,” Cohen said.

I think its time they should stop with the protests already. Its very ugly by now. Every time I see this protest in the news I want to throw up. Even though I’m a satmar chasid and I’m against the medina I think they have to stop this already.

they should stop protesting. it doesn’t seem that what they r doing is keeping the lot from opening & helping it close. people only keep on getting hurt and looking silly in pics. it is understandable why they would want the lot closed on shabbos, but they treid for over a month & they didn’t succeed. why do more people have to get hurt. ? we are not the judges of the wrld. when the owner and mangers and the people who fought to keep it open . pass away after 120 they will have to answer gd on wat they did. just as any of the protesters who did more then just stand and be there to protest. we as jews have so many problems to worry about then a parking lot . jews around the world are hated. and when nonjews see infighting. that all streghtens their hatetard more.

The Torah says that there is a Mitzvah of Machuah we MUST demonstrate if someone does violate the torah, and if the torah said so when doing this everyone is making a Kiddish Hashem not a Chilul Hashem and it doesn’t metter what VIN posters have to say on this, however the torah also says that one is obligated to this Mitzvah ‘Ad Kadai Hakuah’ so this individual is Puter from demonstrating anymore.

For all of you who are busy writing how wrong these chareidim are, let me tell you what I saw when I was in Jerusalem last Shabbos. Yes there were protesters that overdid it, but the unfair and wild treatment that the police treated the people there was abnormal.
I was standind on top of the parking lot/mall just to watch what’s going on, and I realized something interesting, that the same few cars with the same liscence plates, were going in and out the parking lot a whole time during the protest, just so it should look like a lot of people are using this parking lot.
SHAME ON YOU – BARKAT!!!

I’m tempted to say he got what he deserved but perhaps this young man was deluded into believing he was actually taking an action dictated by hashem because of what some rav had told him.

It is nice to have the feeling and inclination to follow ones own religion, however, it is something else to shove it down others throats. No one is forcing the ultra orthodox to drive or park their cars in this parking lot/garage on Shabbat and it is absolutely disrespectful for them to first of all, demonstrate about it on Shabbat as they have in the past. It is also such a blemish on Jews in general to see them acting like terrorists in reaction to the lot. They look as though they are simply 1/2 of a step behind the terrorists who kill innocents in their passion. As to this last article, what type of an idiot would lay under a car? If this jerk doesnt care about his own life he is totally acting against Judaism and the Torah by placing the driver in the position of harming another human as well as the possibility of accidently killing another thru no fault of his own. I am not orthodox and from what i read here, according to these poor excuses for humans, as times, I can see that I am not even considered to be a Jew, however, I would not intentionally harm another living thing no matter what. What is their excuse?

While Israel is ready to “DEMONSTRATE RESPECT” for ARABS and requested that, as of last Shabbat, the IDF soldiers not eat, drink or smoke in front of PA Arabs, many of whom will be fasting during the daytime throughout the month-long holiday. IDF spokesmen explained that soldiers will be allowed to eat when they please, but have been asked to refrain from doing so in public, in order to “DEMONSTRATE A HIGH LEVEL OF RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING.” Soldiers and police have been given explanatory material regarding the holiday and its customs.

Isn’t it SHAMEFUL that the JEWISH COUNTRY cannot “DEMONSTRATE RESPECT” for JEWS in their Jewish country?

SHAME ON ISRAEL!!!!

If we yidden had united in the first place and used our collective voice to bring to power a Mayor of Jerusalem who was Charedi, just like our previous mayor, we would have so much less of an issue right now. But instead the usual infighting caused some not to back the charadi candidate and he lost the election to this mayor who is fighting the wrong fight instead of doing his job! When will we learn our lesson and realize that we have more that unites us than divides us. Together we stand, Divided we fall.

it’s irrelevant whether or not the guy was right for stopping in front of the car. the question is whether someone was intrentionally run-over.

also this video doesn’t show anything-stupid clip.
ps. i heard the driver may have been an arab

What’s wrong with a little civil disobedience and community organizing?

The Mohammedans and Liberals are trying to impose their filthy values on the Jewish community of Yerushalayim. If they want to live under Shari’a or Socialism they can move to a Mohammedan city – like Paris or Cairo – or a socialist place like Washington, D.C.

But Yerushalayim is a Jewish city. If the Mohammedans and Liberals can’t respect that, then the population has every right to civil disobedience and community against these interlopers and reclaim their city.
